Hello Everyone,
I cannot believe tomorrow will be 13 days already and to be very honest with you I haven't even thought about taking another pain med. It's truely a wonderful feeling to wake up and not reach for a pain pill. All my symptoms are gone and I really feel much stronger and my back has barely even hurt. I have decreased my xanax intake from 2 mg a day to only .75 at night and will cut that back even further tomorrow night. I'm waiting every three days before I cut and by next week I'll be off this too. I took less of it for the last two nights and slept a lot longer so I think I'm ready. Any advice on the xanax thing? Am I doing the right thing?
Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that it may be hard right now but I promise there is a light at the end of the tunnel but we have to let the fog lift to be able to see it.Hang in there on your recovery and remember there are people who care.

TH,
Good job!!!!! You are doing fabulous. It is difficult but you are steadfast. I love your story. Hang in there. If you feel like you want to slide get some more help on board. As for the Xanax you are on track in weaning slowly. If you can do it it's the best way. I wish you all the best in your recovery. Can you share what has helped you most??? Are you going to any meetings or anything? Just curious.
Congratulations and may your new life be joyful.
Best Wishes,
PM

TH- You are doing the RIGHT THING....
WOOHOO!!!! congrats!!
Good job--and good on you for patting yourself on the back. So important to recognize this accomplishment. Keep up your positivity. As for the xanax--I would just be very careful as you wean off. Anxiety came back for me fast and hard after about 3 weeks completely clean. Have a plan in place and stick close. This sounds really cheesy but it helped me: come up with your own catch phrase that encompasses how you want to keep feeling and repeat it, it seeps into your subconscious supposedly. Mine was, "i am a part of this universe and i feel terrific" cheesy--but it helps. good luck!

I wish I could honestly say that I don't still take pain meds...I just don't take vics..i have been taking tramadol, but that I wouldn't even recommend...
good luck with the zanax...i used to take that to cure hangovers, but never had a problem with that..don't even like it.
way to go..

I really appreciate all the support and advice. Sometimes I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing and just need a little support every now and then.
As far as what has help me the most, that would be myself to be honest with you. What I mean is that I just made up my mind and told myself I didn't need this stuff anymore.Once I made that decision then thats were my wife and this board came into play and I do thank god for both. I am very strong willed and do not like losing and I started to feel like I was losing my grip on my own body and I knew it had to stop.
Bottom line is enough was enough for me so i Quit. I know that this may not work for everyone but it worked for me.The mind is a very powerful thing we just have to know when and how to use it.
Thank God for all of you and we'll say a prayer tonight.

TH,
I'm so happy for you. You are on track. Just stay with it each day. I think in coming off Xanax you are doing the right thing by weaning slowly. Just stay on focus. If a psychological component comes into play anytime do not let it throw ya. It would just be telling you to set up more support. I am so happy for you. Each day is one day you don't have to repeat with withdrawls. Keep true to you!
