GREETINS ALL-IM IN SAN JOSE, CALIFORINA. ITS NOW BEEN 23 DAYS OF SOBRIETY AND NO OXYS. BEEN OUT OF REHAB ABOUT A WEEK. AM TAKING SUBOXONE. I DEFINTALTYE DO HAVE SOME CRAVINGS. I WAS ON THE OXYS FOR 4 YEARS SO THIS IS ALL NEW TO ME. I WAS TOLD AT REHAB THAT I SHOULD NOT DRINK ALCOHAL BECAUSE I COULD RELAPSE WITH THE OXYS VIA THE BOOZE. I DID NOT GO TO REHAB FOR THE BOOZE SO THIS BUMS ME OUT. THE GOOD NEWS IS I FEELS GREAT AND AM FEELING CONFIDENT. I KNOW IM DONE WITH THE PILLS BUT STAYING OF MY PRECIOUS DRINK OR TWO EVERY OTHER NIGHT IS GOING TO BE VERY HARD. ANY ADVICE FROM THE VETERANS ON ANY OF THESE ISSUES? THANKS AND GOD BLESS.
Congrats!
Doesn't it feel great?
Keep it up!

Hi peter congrats hun sorry i cant offer you any advice on booze question but im sure someone will soon. Day at a time hun jackie xxxx
Hi Peter, congratulations on the 23 days off Oxys! That's a great accomplishment. I just read a friend's post that his 17-year-old niece died last night of an Oxy overdose. I'm glad you won this round of the Russian roulette, and I hope you'll never have to play again.
As to the alcohol question, you're getting good advice from the rehab. It's been advice that has developed and been passed down for at least 50 years. Unfortunately, a lot of people have died, or reached far lower bottoms, trying to prove it wrong. Give it a try for a while, at least. Sobriety is still new for you. Go to some meetings to learn more about your addiction, and to pick up some tools that will help you defend against the insidious mental part of this disease. You've already paid high dues to get where you are.....now you deserve the best possible chance at recovery. Congratulations again -- hang in, M.

Hi!
Just wanted to tell you that 23 days off of oxy's is awesome. I remember taking those little suckers (I usually took percocet) but they are MUCH powerful and VERY dangerous. We had three people all OD (I think they were shooting them) in Lake Placid - about 15 miles from where I live. More power to you!!!
I think with the booze part - maybe they are concerned about it "clouding" your judgement. I wouldnt think you would have to stop drinking forever - just give this time (your mind has kind of been on vacation for a long time!!) Good luck to you and congrats again.
Love,
Marie

Hi
My 2 cents on the booze thing is once an addict always an addict. I could get away with only a few drinks while on pills but when i took pills out of the equation my booze intake went up and up. I think there are very few addicts that can get away with taking any mind altering substances in a controled way. Also if you take a few drinks it alters the way you think and you run the risk of becoming passive to the addiction it has a knack of catching you out when you are at you most vunerable. That could mean when you are very happy or very sad or when you think you have it beat.

Hi peter. I am originally from Newark, just down the road from you. I don't really like to admit that...lol...... All of my family still lives in the bay area.....
If you are a true addict, once you give up on one substance, the other will pick up. For me, I can't take any mind altering substances, my chemical make up takes me right into abuse.
Way to go on the 23 days. Just get honest with yourself. If you think that you have a problem with the booze, then it is time to stop...but that is up to you.
I know that I protected my disease until the end. I always justified and rationalized and minimized just to keep using. I was just taking prescribed vics and drinking beer...legal, right? Until I got my a** kicked by these two, I would protect them...I never lost everything, but I did lose my self respect, and my ability to live in the human race. That was enough.
By the way, how is the weather down there?
