A Friend's Story

A friend of mine became severely addicted to alcohol in her twenties. As the years past, her addiction became worse to the point she lost her job (in accounting) and became homeless. She talked her brother into letting her live in his basement while 'she' tried to get her life together. At this time, she was in her 30's. He told her only if she got a job, any job, and got help for her drinking. She got a job however continued drinking. She worked 8 hrs and came back to her brothers basement and would drink a 12 pack of beer she picked up on the way home from work. She would black out on her sofa then get up the next day and go to work. This pattern repeated itself for months until one day she didn't wake up. Her brother found her unresponsive and call 911. She was rushed to the hospital and after many attempts they were able to save her. When she left the hospital she completely thought she would return to her brothers basement except he said NO. He did not realize the extent of his sister's alcohol addiction until this happened she had hidden the amount she was drinking. He told her she had no where to go. By not wanting to be homeless again and feeling awful about her brother refusing to let her live with him she put herself in rehab. She was there 3 months and was discharged to a very structured half way house where she lived for 2 years and work at a job in accounting. She was 40 years old when she went into rehab and today she has 15 years of sobriety. Her story gives me hope for my daughter and for all our children. Its never too late. Happy New Year my dear friends!
A great story to start 2019! There is always hope and always a chance to turn things around.

Happy New Year to all.
Theses are the stories that give us hope, and also brings a tear to the eye, well done your friend
My friend told me she gives thanks to her brother for not letting her back in his basement. She said instead of being in sobriety today, she'd be dead.
