A Million Little Pieces

I may have missed some post on this book---but I just finished reading it. I would so to any one out there that has any problems with drugs, this is a must read book. It is honest, brutal and most of all truthful.

This book has helped me understand what happens to the brain when drugs are abused, and most of all it gave me hope---that WE can beat this crazy way of life.

It cost about $15.00, but if there is someone out there that can not get a copy--let me know and I will send you mine. This book is one that will effect the way you think about what we are going through as addicts.

Again, if you would like this book I will send it to you--just let me know

Mike
It IS a great read!!!! No kidding. Much of it is fiction however. He falls asleep on crack? Hazeldon doesnt take 25 patients. They do not have Doctors on staff to rebreak bones, they never have. There is no policy at Hazeldon that requires them to go through surgery with no anesthetic. I think thats what makes it so great! GREAT READ!

I did not pick the book apart, I just took what I think applied to me. Some of it I could not relate to because my DOC was different, but it kind of showed me where I could have ended up. I am in NA/AA--what I really picked up from it is that most of the time you have 2 things going on at once. We me it was sex and Vic's. Once I stopped taken Vic's, I noticed that how I dealt with sex changed. And this book just kinda woke me up to some other issues.

I have never been in a clinic, so I dont know how they work---but yes it is a great read,

Mike
It sounds like a book I need to read .
Hi there

It is an inspiring read...a bit hard to read with all his run on sentences but a great read. Fact is he did it, did it his way and was successful, he chose not to use the 12 step program, and was successful anyway, by listening to his heart.

That part if true...dont know if you saw the interview with oprah, but he is still clean and is married with a beautiful little baby..Many of his friends past on.

His second book " My friend Leornard" is even better..it continues his life as he lives it sober, and his love for Maya, the broken and fragile young woman he fell in love with in rehab.

Im sure there are exagerations in the book. Knowing the dental field, I find it very hard to believe that a dentist would perform the things he did on a patient that was not anesthetized...the patient would be squirming all over the chair, and the Dr, could not work under such circumstances, even if for his OWN sanity or sake of his own nerves..lolol

I choose to look at the postive aspects of the book...;the fact that he overcame such hugs addiction issues, and did so by following his heart. By trusting his instinct.

Hope you can get the 2nd book.

That is so sweet of you to offer to send it to someone.

Oprah .com has some of the interview still on file as well as a letter from James Frey to the viewers...

Thankyou for sharing the book suggestion

hugs

Ali
Ali,
The 2nd book is on my x-mas list.
Mike
Mandy,
If you would like I will send it to you---I think that it is a book that can be passed around to those that could use it.

Let me know and I will give you my email address
Mike,

LOLOLOLOL

I could relate to the book more than not. Its his contadictions that made me wonder. He touts to do this with NO help from the outside world. That is very dangerous. It could kill someone and one of those people is posting here. It makes me terribly sad however he did and does still live by the Tao. That is a program in itself in many ways.
Ali,
What did you think of the other programs I linked you up with? The chances of people staying clean for a few years with no help is possible. The chances for long term are about .25%, that is a fact. I dont know why anyone would risk it. There are MANY programs out there. For all opinions and mindset. To promote to others that it can be done alone is deadly.
GREAT READ either way,
Ben
Is he still with Lily? NO WAY! I think you meant Lily, not Maya. I wondered about that!
Ben
Lily hung herself the day he got out of prison, The TAO is a great book also, I read that early on--when I first got clean. I am one of those people that try to read as much as I can, and sometimes things go over my head---I prefer it to just be straight out--no fluff. I also know because I have been told by many people that I think to much--I will be the first to say that I try not to rent to much space in my own head--because it causes me problems...LOL
LOLOL

Sorry it was Maya..your right Ben...lol

BTW... Ben you stated above "He touts to do this with NO help from the outside world. That is very dangerous. It could kill someone and one of those people is posting here."

Are you talking about ME???????? ( again?lololol)

Im not doing it without help.............look atall the peole here who have helped me...including YOU..lolol

And yes, it starts out with him being in a half way house and talking to Maya on the phone, wanting to see her and loving her so much...with all her vulnerabilities and fralities, he loves her so very very much...and it continues with all his friends that he met while in Rehab, his struggle to get himself a job, and stay clean...he actually works in a bar for awhile till one day Leonard comes in and makes him an offer he cant refuse...lololol

Got ya wanting to read it???

its GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt,

I would love to read that book. Can I email you about it?

Sharon
cant believe you spoiled that part either man that sucks!!!! I am almostat the end too.Bummer! oh well thats life I suppose!
Sorry folks--did not mean to " spoil " the end---but if you reda the post under mine--it mentioned that someone else died, I did not know they were talking about the 2nd book----so I thought I missed something.

Again to me it was not about who dies, but rather about what happens to drug users, I guess I didnt read it as a novel---I read it as a learning tool
I would be very greatful for a book like that and if you do send it my way I could pass it on when I am done . Thank you very much .
Mandy
