Hi! I'm new to this Board . . .in fact, this is my 2nd post. I need your feedback. Has anybody heard of a sober coach? Is this legit? Or are scammers so low to try to trick me now?
My 20 year old daughter spent 7 days in detox for heroin. She is now 3 weeks heroin and suboxone clean today!!! She continues to go to intensive outpatient rehab 3 days a week. I got a call last night from a guy in California who said I could hire him to be her private sober coach, mentor or companion. Depending on which I pick, he would support her by being with her anywhere from physically in our town 24/7 to being available by phone 24/7. He says because he's been sober for 23 years he can "empower" her by his 'sober presence and expertise" and guide her to make the right choices to live a sober and productive life. He would be with her 30, 60 or 90 days again depending on what I pick. He never quoted a price for his services although I asked. He did mention that he has worked with CEOs and celebrities.
I am emotionally, physically, and spiritually whooped so my normal scam-radar is not working. The last 2 months have been a whirlwind. She dropped out of college and moved back home. I discovered the depths of her addiction about 4 weeks ago when all of our jewelry was missing. I feel a lot of things: confused, violated, dumb (for not knowing sooner), angry and hurt. The atmosphere in my home is tense as my husband and I are walking on eggshells. But, net net, I want to help my daughter succeed with her recovery. Does this private coach sound legit? Has anyone used a coach?
Thanks

Am curious as to the circumstances behind this guys call in the first place.
-How did he hear about you?
-Does he work for a company or organization?
If your curious about him, type his name or company name into Google search, you can generally find out a lot about someone good or bad by doing this.
Have never heard of these coaches myself.

Hi Rich! Thanks for responding.
Yes, I did a google search on him, but only his LinkedIn profile and a website pop up. And then only his first name and first initial of his last name are shown. (I don't know his full government name.) No, it is not a company. And he was allegedly referred to me.
Has anybody used a coach? What were your experiences?

I hate to say it but something sounds fishy.
Before proceeding I would get references, and consider that your daughter might not appreciate being held accountable to anyone.
She might feel like you're treating her like a kid.

I've never heard of a coach before either. Sounds like a bit of a scam to me. Be careful! Good luck with your daughter. I hope it all works out well for her and you. Mary.
