Hey gang... I am still feeling down but my pity party from yesterday is over. I had a 4 hour conversation with my mom last night and a 2 hour one with hubby. This morning I made an appt with an addictionologist. It took me two hours because Kaiser sucks, I had to yell scream and stomp my feet but in the end I got what I needed. Its for next thursday. What should I expect? I now many of you have been to one so I just want a general overview.. thanks!
See the thing is, my DOC isnt a narcotic or an opiate so I dont know that sub would work. I"m willing to try anything however.
Teresa I didnt take any offense at all to what you said. I have thick skin and a lot of what you wrote I needed to hear. As far as how I get them, its not from doctors. You can get anything you want from the computer. My doc knows my history and I"m flagged in the system. Did you know my doc is considered a "lifestyle" medication and therefore not illegal to buy on the net? It floors me. I know many addicts but have yet to meet one that is addicted to Soma like I am. In fact teresa a lot of what you said my mom said too, some of it almost verbatim, scary.
I dont think my insurance will pay for rehab because it isnt a narcotic so there is no phyical withdrawl from it, only pyschological. Those are horrific.
Anyway, I have a breakfast date with my 15 year old son and I need to get going...
Thanks for the support. I really needed it.
Kelly
What is an addictionologist? Never heard of that! Sounds interesting. Or is that what the official title for rehab doctors?
Glad you're feeling better!
Glad you're feeling better!
Kelly-
So happy you made the appt.................Most likely the dr. will get a very detailed history and assesment of your situation and will find the best treatment suited for you.
Let us know how it goes........................
Take care of you!

An addictionologist is a physician who's expertise is in the field of addiction and rehabilitation I believe.
But then again................I am wrong alot :)

Dear Kelly,
I am sorry you are having a tough time. I am happy though you are going to see an addiction specialist. There are many others who were addicted to the same drug, including one of the original members at the PA site. If you would like to get support from that person, you can ask over at PA. Also, I wouldn't assume you can't get insurance coverage for rehab because it is not a narcotic. If you are addicted, you are addicted. As for sub, it is only for narcotics as far as I know, but that is why seeing the addictionologist will be helpful. Take it one step at a time. You will get there.

I am copying this of a site that talks about some of the effects of soma addiction..................and they do talk about physical withdrawal symptoms..............
Soma
Soma (Carisoprodol) is a prescription muscle relaxant for reducing certain types of pain and muscle tension. It is rarely prescribed for medicinal purposes, but it is frequently abused and is scheduled as a controlled substance in some states. Soma can be fatal in overdose.
Soma produces sedating effects through the central nervous system and is chemically similar to the sedative Miltown. It crosses placental barriers and can transfer from a pregnant woman to an unborn fetus. It also appears in the breast milk of mothers who use it.
Soma's potential for causing addiction is well known. People can become addicted to Soma and similar drugs even when these drugs are the prescribed treatment. Others deliberately use Soma to enhance the effects of alcohol or other drugs.
Methods of Use
Soma is taken orally in pill or tablet form.
Effects on the Central Nervous System
Soma acts directly on the central nervous system rather than directly on skeletal muscles. The drug seems to interrupt neuronal communication with the spinal cord and certain areas of the brain, resulting in sedation and altered perception of pain. The main effects of this drug may result from its general sedating effect.
Intoxication
Side effects of using Soma include:
Agitation
Depression
Dizziness
Sleepiness
Facial flushing
Fainting
Headache
Insomnia
Poor coordination
Nausea and vomiting
Rapid heart rate
Stomach problems
Shaking and tremors
Life Risks
Soma can cause dizziness, drowsiness, and other symptoms of sedative intoxication, making driving under the influence of the drug dangerous. Persons taking Soma for medical reasons should be aware of the addictive properties of this drug.
Withdrawal
Withdrawal symptoms include:
Abdominal cramps
Headache
Insomnia
Chills
Nausea

Thanks Java... when I look at the WD list, while I didnt have them all I did have a few. So I guess it is physically addictive. You learn something every day!
I think me being overtired yesterday contributed to my emotional outburst. I know all the right things to do yet I cant make myself do them sometimes. Me and my mom shared stories while under the influence last night and it made me realize as someone else on another site alway says, I'm not unique at all. I can hear stuff like that on here, but hearing from my momma, who's close to my heart finally after 30 years makes it more real for me. She said she was proud of me, that I'm trying to quit now, it took her another 15 years past my age to succeed.
I'm just mad. I was doing good. My normal feel good stuff was working again. I felt like my body and mind were getting on track. Now? I feel like I"m back at day one...
I still have the bottle. Its a big one. I havent taken any today. My mom says last night honey just flush them. I told her I could lie to you and say I will, but I wont. Isnt that sick? I know I NEED to flush them. I cant have them around here or I will use. Plain and simple. Yet I cant bring my self to do it.
Hopefully this doctor can help me. I've spent the last 11 years in a fog off and on. My kids are almost grown. I"ve missed so much. I have young step kids now. I dont want to miss them or my wonderful husband either.
anyway, my kid is rolling his eyes at me telling me he's hungry... LOL at 6'5 250 lbs and a size 17 shoe, I would be hungry too and hes ONLY 15. Just turned two weeks ago. The boy eats enough for a smalll village.
Thanks again

Soma in higher doses or taken regularly
accumulates in the liver, and the body can't break it down fast enough, so it becomes toxic, and causes a major shutdown of your organs and a resulting massive coronary....
This was the way a friend of mine died; she had no actual drugs in her blood system, but toxic toxic levels of soma ( the enzyme it gets broken down into)
in her liver...
If your taking large doses of soma your playing Russian roullette.
please stop taking it kel....
Glad your getting help.
Hugs
