My son is 31. Areesested for heroine posession 5 years ago. Since then has been on soboxine, then when he had no more insurance he went to the methadone clinic. Just got off of the methadone 6 months ago.(I think that is along time to get straight). So now he drinks too much alcohol and self medicates with that along with kradum. He is starting an out patient program, but I don't know enough about the drug world. Is he really bad or is this "normal"? He is in better shape than he was a year ago but I think he is still an addict with the kradum and alcohol. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Hi, saw your post in methadone board originally. Ok so yeah it's 'normal' not necessarily healthy. So at this point in time you recognize he's in better shape..from what you explained..definitely. getting off heroin going on suboxone then methadone..HUGE. getting off methadone HUGE. how long was he on subs then methadone? six months off and making it that far is huge. Assuming taking kratom for withdrawal, though can be addictive from what I've heard, I never took that. Was he a drinker before? How is he doing mentally? That's often reason people go back to drug they were on or switch to something else, so yeah that part can be scary. you said he's going to treatment center soon..that's a good sign. Unfortunately there is no way to predict how things are going to turn out, and not a whole lot you can do for him, unless he continues in right direction, in which case support him much as you can. If the two things you mentioned become worse, the healthiest thing you can do for you is to try to step back as difficult as it is. Thats best I got at moment..recovery is a battle, I know, hope he catches himself replacing with alcohol (if that's what he's doing, which is my guess) stay strong for you and yes sounds like he's come a long way. Stay strong...
