Alcohol

have read some posts that seem to suggest that alcohol should be avoided for recovering addicts? i know that sounds like a stupid question but my boyfriends problem is with heroin adn cocaine not alcohol..but is it likely or easy that he could switch his addiction over to alcohol?

my boyfriend is on methadone, and doesnt drink very much only a couple of times a month and usually hardly any, and doesnt show any signs of turning to drink to help him solve his problems ...but should he not be drinking anything?

he also has hep c so has to be careful for that as well alcohol wise

With Hep C- he should be avoiding alcoholat all costs.

I can only speak of myself here. I am totally aware that when I drink too much, my defenses go down and the chances of me making some 1/2 assed excuse to do dope again always pops into my head. Therefore I dont drink, except for the special event (wedding, football bames ,..etc..) Even then its 1 or 2.
I am fortunate ,as I lost the taste ,and the way alcohol makes me feel.

I lot of ex-heroin addicts and methadone addicts take to drinking as they get off the hard drugs. Ive seen this a few times and its a horrible habit.

I guess I might be a little different here(maybe not-as addiction is a baffeling thing like they say)- but I woulnt recommended it. Experts say that the combo of mdone and alcohol is one of the worst.

all the best

Hello,Sash, agree with Jack if yer man has hep.c alcohol is not so good as they both effect the liver,as for him getting into boozing it doesnt sound like he will, asits only very now&then. As for the meth. as long as he doesnt get drunk,or just have a few more than usual he should be o.k,but as mentioned Hep c&alcohol are bad for his system.all the best ...Davey
Jack, mate yer deff.right about the meth.&booze being a real killer,as im sure your aware both in any large amounts is a big factor in many drug related deaths.Im afraid i saw this at the coalface as my bro died in 98,from a coke, meth&booze combo, but at the inquest the coroner more or less said that the meth&alcohol were the main players in his death. Also from my own experience many meth.users drink alot for the zombie like effect&as you said its v.scarey to see.....all the best...Davey
hey davey..you are turnin into my life saver thanks for always taking the time to reply to posts!

i dont think he will have a problem either its just something that i started to think about after reading other posts.

he is careful and rarely drinks more than a few at a time, feel kind of bad as for ages when we were together i think i prob encouraged us to drink ..this of course being b4 i knew anything and did always think he didnt drink very much ..i assumed b4 cos i have been a student and student drinking is alwyas a bit excessive and so thought this was the diff also beingf in a diff counrty thought that was diff too.....how niave i was!
can someone put me straight about hepititis a,b,c what is the difference in them and why is it always associated with heroine addicts.. touch wood i have never had anything in my whole life, but i would like someone to explane to me what the difference between the three are. thankyou tracie x
Hepatitis Info

It isn't only associated with heroin users. But some forms are transmitted through the blood. Sharing of needles is a means for it spreading. HIV also can be transmitted this way.

Hope this helps tracie
thanks hurtdad you helped alot, i was starting to get para
tracie,
Even tho' this doesn't put me in a very positive light i will tell you that my ex bf who had/has a heroin habit spanning over 30 years (throw in a good many years of IV coke use until he got too paranoid and gave it up)...had been diagnosed with Hep C three years ago.
Numb nuts was so shocked because he always prided himself on never contracting anything major from his long standing heroin habit because he always used his own works.....his Hep C is still in its dormant stage but he continues to flirt with the needle and drink occasionally...especially as he on Probation and can't go full steam ahead in his smack habit as he could in his 'free' days.
Anyhoo....transmission of Hep C thru sexual contact is extremely rare and yes...stupid me has had unprotected sex with him on many occasion but i have never contracted the Hep C.......but of course i have risked all of the other horror illnesses that unprotected sex with a lying heroin addict could produce....but we are no longer together and i have been tested and i am okay...

i didn't mean to offend anyone by referring to
him as a lying heroin addict...but the fact is even
the rare times he wasn't shooting dope...he still
lied about other things

MARY
thanks for that, luckily enough i have never used the needles, and my ex was the last person that i slept with and that was just over a year ago... but ive heard so much talk about hepititas that i just wanted to get a clear pitchure of what its all about..... sorry to hear about your ex, you took a risk lucky for you you did'nt end up with something serious god must of been on your side, im happy for you.... thanks for taking time out, take care, tracie x
