All H Addcits Please Help

Hi...I have a question...when an addict is detoxing from heroin...will he/she display symptoms of the high? (nodding off, slow slurred speech)

My GF is supposevely detoxing...she actually appears to be very high...she looks stoned....

please help
Livin,
The LAST thing she would be doing is nodding while in heroin withdrawl!
she prob is high livin...they do NOT nod at ALL when they are sober...
when i was in detox I could not sleep at ALL let alone nod off. I was super emotional and angry. I have not personally seen anyone going thru detox nod or look high however they tend to look strung out dragged down but, not high.
I watched my daughter go thru detox (more than once!) and there was no nodding off or slurred speech - EVER.

You know what you know. Good luck to you.
I have experienced similar with my son when he was taking 'blues' I think they are called valium, I thought he was stoned, slurred speach and constantly nodding off

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I deal with alot of clients who are on methadone treatment, they do tend to nod off. The dosing could be too high.
Don't jump to conclusions without knowing what the effects can be.
Take care.

is the gf on methadone? i did not read that in your question. If so yeah you can nod on methadone and look high.
Don't necessarily jump to the wrong conclusions. Is she taking anything else to help with the withdrawals? Although detoxing from meth or heroin is like being plugged into the mains and receiving 240volts every few seconds, it is entirely possible to take enough benzos or other downers to make you sleep like the dead even though you are detoxing, especially if you are not used to taking them. Britlofex is one drug that is sometimes prescribed to help with withdrawals and that can make you very sleepy, especially if you are in the early stages of withdrawals from methadone. Methadone withdrawal takes longer than a heroin detox, and the real pain doesn't kick in till day 2 or day 3. Valium (diazapam) and temazapam can readily be bought off the street and they also knock you out. I did one detox several years ago where I took enough benzos to kill a rhino and hardly opened my eyes for 2 or 3 days. It is very common to use benzos (valium/temazapam etc) whilst detoxing, so don't be surprised if she is. Also there are loads of other less common downers, such as Seroquel, which are like a sledgehammer round the head and can cause slurred speech and sleepiness. The clue is the eyes. If she is in opiate withdrawal, the pupils will be dilated. If she is using an opiate the pupils will be very small, but obviously don't check them whilst she has light on her face as that will cause them to shrink. Whilst on opiates the pupils hardly react at all to light and dark and remain tiny in the dark.

best of luck to you both
