Almost

As some of you know, I passed the four months sober mark. Because of things that have been going on my head has been completely garbled for the last couple of months. Today I came back from a short break. I didn't drink while away. I came home, unpacked my things and took the car keys in my hand to go and get wine. I really thought the only thing that would calm me down is a glass or two. I put my jacket on and I just stopped. I didn't go. I am here instead. The craving hasn't gone but I don't think I will be buying the wine after all today.
Don't.
Ruthie......DON'T DO IT!!!

Fast forward ahead to what it looks like if you do. The guilt of relapsing will make you want to drink more to erase the pain.

Hang in there. This too shall pass!

Ruth,
Call your sponsor before you go....get your butt to a meeting if possible and sit there and listen. Pray like you've never prayed before and ask for your HP to walk you through this.....

Trust me Ruth, nothing will get better, fixed or cured by drinking, it will only get worse, so much worse.....Care to share what's going on in your head? Maybe if you get those thoughts and feelings out, it might just relieve the craving to go drink....I'm here and you've also got my email.....

Just for today, Ruth, don't drink....maybe tomorrow but not today....

Ruth, the guilt and remorse you will feel if you drink will be way worse than what you're feeling now. It's just not worth it. Whatever is going on will pass. Like Stacey said, maybe tomorrow but not today.
Thanks guys,
You are right. I would only wake up with a hangover and filled with remorse, after probably having said and done the most Godawful things first.

Stace, what's been going on in my head is basically a lot of beating myself up. Thinking stupid things like that at 33 I should be married, with 2.5 kids, and a home of my own. Should is a stoopid word :) I've been told in AA "You have what have and You are at where You are at". Drinking over it won't change things. I suppose I have allowed myself to think too much about the opportunities I may have jeopardised because of drinking, how maybe my lfe would be different today. BUT, I don't get these days too often thankfully and I do try every day to focus on gratitude and to count the blessings I already have in my life.
Anyway, thanks so much for your words. They keep me sober. And for that I am grateful. xx
Ruth,

For what it's worth I moved in with my ex and her two three-year-old kids when she was 38.

If she wasn't drinking I think we'd still be a happy family and our children wouldn't have - to quote our now 14 year-old-daughter - "given up on her". AND we wouldn't be on the point of losing the house her father bought her.

You're putting first things first. I wish my love could find the way to do the same.

Take care.

Martin
Ruthie,

I'm so so grateful you didn't! "DON'T" Believe me! It won't get better with the bottle. hun.

Check in when you get a chance. How are you doing today? Have the cravings gone away? What have you been doing to keep yourself busy.

Sometimes I find myself justifing a drink, its the illness in me.

I've even said to myself its my co-dependence << thats ok I'm not an Alcohlic I can drink, I'M WRONG SO VERY VERY WRONG,

So I pick up the phone, (when I dont isolate) I talk to my sponsor, I get to a meeting. I know its the illness,
