A & E Television's premiere of Benjamin Bratt in, "The Cleaner," aired last night. It's based on a true story of an addict that makes it his calling to rescue practicing addicts from their addictions (at the behest of loved ones and paid by them) and put them on a recovery track. He recruits sponsee's he's helped get straight to grab these targets. Anyone bother to catch it? I think the premise is a good one as it sheds some light on both sides of addiction, but it's too early to tell whether the character development is going to progress. Different, though. I applaud A&E for their efforts in addiction education.
Crap I forgot to set my Tivo. I totally want to see that show! A & E is basically the only station that addresses our issues. The show intervention, although it triggers me sometimes, is always a good thing to watch. A reminder of where I never want to be again. It's fellow addicts trying to help other addicts reach their bottom. The interventionists are all recovering addicts and I appreciate that.
On other networks they may touch on addiction but it is usually some "normie" reporter talking to an addict with judgment in their voice as they ask questions.

SU and I watched it and she really enjoyed it. What it allows 'normies' to do is associate themselves with the family members--'cause they're saying the same crap, that our family members say--but *I* don't have to be the one trying to explain it. The family members see that it's part of the whole disease and recovery process, not just something I say to make her feel stupid.

It's always nice to have some "back-up" with regards to this disease. I used to always feel that "they" thought I was making excuses for my behavior, when if fact all I was doing was trying to show "my" side of the story. ~Ugg~~

I sat and watched it last night and parts of it seemed a little unreal to me,but then again the whole premise of the show is pretty different so maybe it'll take me a couple episodes to really get into it and start feeling it...

So I caught the second episode on Tuesday. I still like the premise--addressing the family's dysfunction, age groups, etc. I'm not a B. Bratt groupie at all, but I'm an A&E fan. Kudos for trying.
Anyone see episode 3? I think they're doing an okay job of examining the relationships of Bratt's character and the family dynamic. I don't think that everyone's incessantly accusing, though. Any education of the plight is a step in the right direction when done with some dignity, IMO.

I related to this past episode being a cocaine addict, never had the bucks this guy did though to use.

I agree, the last episode when the prof was going out to cop...are there really that many dealers with that many substances at the local city park?? Not to mention the amount of money he was spending. But it is a fairly good story line, the family interaction is good. I know I can see parallels in my own relations with my family after the wreckage of my past. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot of good TV going on, at least not that I'm interested in. Hopefully there will be a change soon.

I was sitting with my son-in-law at the local Joe's Deli having gotten a sandwich and salad. There was a young couple with a kid in the booth across the way, and he was on the phone planning a buy. A few minutes later a well-dressed man came in (known drug dealer according to son-in-law who's in law enforcement), went directly to the Men's Room, and the young father got up and followed him in. The deal took place and the meeting broke. You should have seen the look on the young mother's face.
You needn't know the rest of the story, but the point is that it's not as clandestine as we'd like to think. Perhaps "The Cleaner" is taking some liberties. So What? Ever watch Fonzie jump the shark? LOL
