Thank you Tina!!!! I appreciate it very much
could I come clean and tell my dr who has prescribed this for the past 6 years on a regular basis, I am afraid he will feel as if I am blameing him for my addiction, soem drs dont even realize the extent of addiction one can have from prolonged use, obviously he doesnt because he has prescribed large amounts without any mention of possible addiction or what I may need to do to get off these pills, I am not sure if he would even take responsibility to help me off them by prescribing this subloxone. And with the law only alowwing drs to prescribe for a max of 30 patients at a time Im concerned, there is only one listed in my state in driving distance of 1 hour and Im sure since he is listed he has his max. Should I go to a rehab for addiction?? Do they usually prescribe this ?? I am unsure where to get help and am embarassed.
Hi angie,
I am sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but I was putting my princess to sleep.
I will try to answer your questions as best as I can. First you should know that I am the wife of an addict who is has been on sub for almost 4 months. I read your story and see that you are trying to taper, now it may or may not work but if you have someone to help you it would be better, to hold your pills and give you just what you need each day. CT is possible with what you are taking and it sounds like you have been throught this before. Tapering fast will lessen withdrawals, tapering slower will be even better in that department. If you tell you doctor then he could perscribe clonidine which is a blood pressure med that helps with wd, also there are many OTC meds that help too. My husband did tell his doc he was in trouble and his doc was very understanding but not all are......That decision will have to be yours alone, but if he is compassionate he should help.....
Rehab is a good choice(some use sub)and the are other options like intensive out patient or just out patient.....No matter what you do, I would also say to use sub as a last resort if possible......It will take the wd away, it is a good tool and must be used with an outside program, addiction counselling or AA/NA.
Another thing I am worried about is the ativan.....I am not sure how long you have been taking it or at what amount but it can not be stopped ct........You must wean from it and it is better to do under a doctors supervision. Now if you only take it here and there be careful using it during wd cause there is a big chance that you will swap one addiction for another......
Also not all sub doctors are on the list.........Look in your yellow pages for addictologists and call thier office to see if they use it. If you decide to tell your regular doc he may know something about who perscribes too.
I have another link I will post for you about treatment options and support groups that will help. Check that out too, it has some good info....
I hope that I helped you some......I wish you all the best on your journey to be pill free......You are so worth it all.......
Love,
Tina

bump for Angie
thanks again Tina, I just read your reply... I have the Rx for Ativan but I think it was probally 4 months ago since I used one. I have never felt the need to take those, its the narcotic pain pills I have a problem with. I have used these before to help with withdrawls, because they make me sleep is all. The pain pills have always given me a warm sense of self and the energy to get things done.. I realize the ativan is addictive also, I really dont think I would use them other than to calm me during withdrawls. Thank you for the suboxone links, that does sound like a good medication to ease withdrawls.. I think I should most likely try to taper and quit and suffer through, the ativan should help some. I thought if I stay active during the day and do some light exercise that may help. I have started taking vitamins and I also have taken zoloft for a long time, which I tend to forget to take when i am on my pill taking binges. I have started to take it again also. Thank you so much for the wonderful advice. Have a wonderful Sunday afternoon.. I will it is very nice here today and warmer tahn it has been in a while..
Angie,
I am really glad that you are going to try to get through this without sub. It really should be a last resort......I think you will do fine tapering, and you can jump in with the Easter Plan and have some great company.
Good Luck to you and take care of yourself.......

Tina- could you look at subutex/xanax --- thanks!
Hey Angie
Sounds like you have a plan!!! Thats great. I've read a bunch of stuff on that suboxone some good some bad. It works really well with w/d, but must be administered by a sub doctor, which is apparently very difficult to find. The other thing I read is someone had a bad experience because they took it incorrectly and were now trying to withdraw from it. Of course I only read one bad post about it. But read those from those sites to see what it is really about. How are you feeling? Do you need the pain pills for the actual surguries you have had and the pain still??? Is your hubby still doling them out for you??? I hear you got a boat. Good for you. It is so cold here feels like all year long I think we would only get two months use if that. My husband refuses to put a pool in because there is just not enough warm days even in the summer YUCK. I hate winter and I am definetly going thru the winter blues. Can't wait just to go out and take the baby for a blessed walk. See ya
