Anonymity

I was at my usual AA meeting yesterday when it was revealed to us that some members have been telling tales out of school and carrying personal details of members to others in the outside world. I must say I am very disappointed as I thought trust and anonymity were the corner stones of AA? If people spread tales and rumors outside it is going to be very difficult for anyone to share.

Has auyone else experienced this in their Groups?
Hi, Ruth.
Firstly, it's so good to hear that you're still going to meetings. AA has a*******, too, unfortunately. I can only speak for myself, but working on my sobriety is more important to me than buttmunches. I DO attend an open meeting and consider it home, but I've been to closed meetings, too. We're fortunate here in that we have a variety. If you don't, then it may be good to discuss it with someone you trust (sponsor?) and ask that it be brought up. If it were affecting MY sobriety I'd be damned sure to bring it up in a meeting, though. Unfortunately, we can not control people, places, or things. PLEASE don't let it affect your sobriety--and maybe talk to your HP about it?

I'm SO glad you're hanging in there!
Hi Ruth,

I don't go to AA so I can't answer your question, but its good to hear from you, I was wondering yow you were doing. I'm sorry to hear about the gossip at the meetings. I hope you are managing to stay sober through all of this... stay in touch , keep us posted on how you are doing....

Gidday Ruth

Was the discloser about the gossipers made in the meeting or after the meeting to individual people? And is it fact? as heresay can be just as dangerous.

If it was made to individuals then bring it into a meeting as a topic or in your general sharing and if the gossiper is present dont point blame just share on how it affects you and at the end of all meetings it should be reafirmed that whats said here stays here and also who is seen here stays here.

I live in a small town so my story is pretty much old news but known news but i know that if i was in the same situation then i would make it known that there is a rumour that someone is telling tales out of school and usually people that are like this do not stay around long.

hope it all turns out ok and dont let it stop you going to meetings as there are a#shol#s in AA and ther own stupidity usually sorts them out

light and love Zac
My Sponsor reminds me when I get in that place in AA where I can't stand it anymore, or anyone there, that I take what I want from a meeting and leave the rest behind, that goes for the "meeting" before the "meeting" and the "meeting" after the "meeting".
