Reddog Ive been reading your progress this whole time.you comming off the sub wasnt as hard as you thought huh?As far as sleeping well could I write a book!!!So say it takes years to get our bodies back to normal.myself I know my next Dr appointment Im going to look into Luserna. Its suppose to be non narcotic,7 can be used long term.I understand what its like not to sleep & for me Im at my breaking point so Ill look into that med.
Keep up the good work,
See you proved to yourself that you are stronger than even you know.....mj
I would ask your doctor for some Trazadone 25 mg to help you sleep Red.
Non Addictive, and you will sleep once you take it, but take it early so you wont wake up feeling groggy.
Or try Tylonal PM's, over the counter.

Reddog-

Trazadone also helped for me when I was going thru w/d's. It is non addictive (thank goodness).

Also, just plain ol warm milk and some honey. Try to (and I know this sounds impossible) get a little bit of exercise each day. My main problem at night was my legs (running legs or cramping) - I just couldnt keep them still. Potassium helps with this also - either vitamins or bananas.

Try a warm bath with epsom salts or some kind of aromatherapy is always soothing!

Best of luck to you.

Love,
Marie
hey red............i've never posted to you before but as i am just detoxing from heroin and was also not sleeping i thought i might be able to help.
i have started using something called 5 HTP......its natural and you can get it from health food shops.......also i have been walking a lot and all the obvious stuff like warm milk and an evening meal with plenty of carbs.....also i have been taking valerian which seems to calm me down.........so after a few days of little or no sleep i got 6 hours last night.you've probably heard all this before but apart from the 5HTP its exactly the same as i did last time i came off sub and within 2 weeks i was sleeping ok...about 6hrs or more............i think the best way is to work or excercise alot.......once you get a few nights under your belt your sleep will get much better..........just try not to think about sleeping too much as this stresses you out and makes it worse........sorry for butting in......hope you get some sleep soon because i know its the worst part.

Red,

Sorry you didn't sleep. The Trazadone is a good idea. It's non-addictive and makes most sleep - I have an adverse effect to AD but it knocks my sister out so it may just give you a good night's sleep.

You have done so well, hope you don't beat yourself up for needing to stay home today. The weather is dreary here in SC - a good day to stay in but I like to go out on these days.

Keep me informed.
Love, Jean

Hey Red
Here's a thought...instead of running for another drug to make you sleep, why not try changing your old behavior and let your body learn to sleep by itself. It will if you give it time. If you medicate, whether its addictive or not, your body will not learn to act naturally. It will take time but it is worth a few sleepless night. I had to change my old habits of popping a pill every time I thought I had a medical problem. It was the habit that was driving me looney along with the withdrawals. But, hey, that's just what I had to do.
Red, I started sleeping pretty good around day 12 or 13 if I remember correctly. Take a hot bath before bedtime, then eat a big old chicken salad sandwich and wash it down with a glass of milk. Hey, the rest of you don't poke fun, it's what worked for me. You can also substitute a 6-pack of Twinkies if you're out of chicken salad. Comfort food is important.

You said you didn't call in to work that often. I would therefore assume that there is no way you should get into any kind of trouble for being out with "the flu".

What if you broke your ankle? They wouldn't expect you to come in then, would they? In my humble opinion, you'll be fine from the standpoint of your job.

Best wishes to you.
James

Doctors usually don't mind writng excuses for work if you need one. Think of all the pills we have talked them out of, surely you can get an excuse.
I dragged my but to Church. I feel soo chitty today, Im cold and clammy and out of sync/. I pray tomorrow is a better day. I thought i was doing soo well too. Its been a week, today is not a good day. I need to sleep tonight.

I also have class tonght and that I can not miss. Its gonna be a rough night friends

Im scared
Hey Red:

I just remembered in my 30's when I got clean in rehab, they gave me warm milk with honey in it. It helped some along with the Advils. If you feel prepared, it may seem easier. I know I've been a bad sleeper for many years and if I get reallly ancy about not sleeping - it makes it worse - I know - easier said than done but if you do everything you can to where you feel prepared - is it easier for you to fall asleep. Also, easier with TV on or off - reading? that helps me sometimes.

I would try it all and we will be hoping and praying that something works.

Jean

hang in there man..........things will start getting better.....your body will take the sleep it needs and like james said around the 10-14 day mark things will really start improving.........stay strong and try and relax.........whatever you are going through its got to be better than being an addict!
keep on fighting........chris

Red you may have to much on your plate. You can always go back to school. Right now your sobriety comes first.

I work with a young kid 23 taking 2 classes and work. He is normal no drug problems. He is stressed out of his mind.

Its a lot of stress. Regarding sleep I would call your doctor and get on something short term to regain your sleep patterns. ASAP

I'm signing off for today. Please keep this at the top for reddog.
Hey Atlas,

I emailed him with the same information, told him to contact his doctor, or try OTC sleep aids. AND TO PAY ATTENTION to what others told him.. lol
He said he was going to call him today.
