I am married to an alcoholic. He doesnt think so, he is successful in business although I know he could do better. He has an excuse for everything he drinks because its X-mas, some ones birthday, because he deserves it etc. etc. He does not drink everyday, probably twice a week. he doesnt sleep at home a couple of nites a week. he blames me because i dont want him in the house drunk, or another is he cant drink and drive. i find it pathetic that a grown man would want to sleep at his friends all the time.
he says his drinking doesnt bother anyone, well it does. His only friends are drunks. I can not go out and socialize with him because i never know if he is going to be the big mouth drunk. He is always late, just no responsibility to anyone. What he doesnt see is the people around him are slowly disapearing. They too cant stand him when he is drunk. Our daughter is a cocaine addict that we have been dealing with for three years. Even that is not his rock bottom. He says her addiction is totally different. I am absolutely exhausted and am giving serious thought to ending this marriage. why is it that he makes me so angry, yet with my daughter my heart feels as if it is being ripped out. I just cant take " Im a good provider", My drinking doesnt bother anyone" He is entitled to a drink! He is always sorry, yet it just falls on deaf ears now. I just feel that he is selfish. he says he'll go to meetings all false promises. I just know he'll never change. What kind of a man expects his child to clean up yet they do nothing to set an example. Too many years waiting for him to come home, too many years of broken promises. The big one is " I stopped drinking the hard stuff for you, now Im drinking beer what else do you want.
Not one person I know will talk to this man they just make excuses not to be around him. its like he feels the world has done him wrong and everyone owes him.
Thanks all for listening just needed to vent
Have you tried Alanon? I strongly suggest it in dealing with your husband and daughter. It is a lifesaver. If you don't feel comfortable going to face to face meetings, do it online until you do. It will make a world of difference in your life.
I am the daughter of an active alcoholic and the wife of an active alcoholic/crack addict. God bless you.

You said "I know he'll never change"
He will never change, so you must. You can't save him, so you must change yourself.
You can only change yourself. Show him his drinking affects you by going to regular Al Anon meetings. You be the role model. You will find all your answers there.

Alanon, alanon, alanon.
Go to a meeting, learn how to react differently to him, he will be shocked, so will you.
Only you can change, then maybe he will.
You are the one who has to do the first big steps because you are the one who is sober.
