hey guys this board has been a great help to me. i travel for work and do not get around to be a part as much as i would like. i need some help/advice once again from the people who know best ... ya'll ! i am a plumber. i travel around the northwest mostly to bigger jobs. you would not believe the number of guys who make a living in the building trades with our problem. it is RAMPANT . i am thinking about starting some kind of advocacy website to help guys in my world get help. many are just like me, never recreational users ... just beat up bodies and a habbit to go along with it. i guess my biggest question would be in the fundraising relm. i would love to travel around and speak union meetings and anyone who would listen about the hell we have lived and what to do if you find yourself there. getting in apprenticship classes and telling young people how not to get caught up in our hell... i would love to raise money to help guys who aren't finacially able to help themselves... can anyone give me some insight? i am really serious about this. i sometimes wish i got involved with pain rx in a recreational sense... at least i would have had some fun !! all i have ever taken meds for is to WORK !!
any help or suggestions would be helpful and i thank you.
jeff
hey jeff,i'll tell you what this post hit a major cord with me,i can deffiantly relate to what you saying as far as takeing pills so your able to work,i also have a very physical job, everyone i work with and have atleast 5yrs in looks and feels like ground up hamburger, and not to mention we work in blizzards and scorching heat,no matter what the weather we still got to work in it,anyways your not alone on this one...............vinny.
Hi Jeff, I can't think of any suggestions but I love your goal. Too many of us went into this with our eyes closed. What could be more rewarding than to educate people and spare them this? Good luck, love, Kat
I don't know any suggestions either Jeff, but you should be commended on what you're trying to do. SOme professions are more prone to chronic pain then others. It's very cool you'd try to help others before they end up in too deep. Perhaps through your human resources, union, medical insurance?? I realize it's a touchy subject. Kind of hard to discuss with an employer. Maybe word of mouth?? Good luck.
What's your story? Have you broken free?? If not, you're in the right place. Beck

intoodeep, thanks for your kind words... i have the worst luck. i started sub in jan... i was on 1mg a day... two weeks from the end of my taper and i demolished a deer in my truck coming home for the weekend from my job. my airbag blew and i messed my neck up !! it has been killing me. i went behind my sub docs back and got some 7.5 hydro so i could sleep. seriously, i was dying !! but my doc caught me and gave me the boot. my fault...he was a great guy and i feel horrible. but i am down to two a day and when these few are gone i'll choke back the tears and go ct... i was on 80mgs oxy and 100mgs lorcet a day before the sub so hopefully i won't chew my tounge off it wd !! whatever it takes i will do. people ask me about wd and all i can say is " when i was 15 a father caught me in bed with his 16 year old daughter. he shot me point blank in the chest with a .22 mag...i'd live through that 10 times before going cold turkey from opiates... " so there you have it. i am going to meet a webmaster friend of mine to help me get this advocacy website off the ground. i am going to try and start raising money as well. i will keep everyone posted ... thanks everyone for the kind words...

Hey Jeff/Getsome, SO sorry to hear things didn't work out how you planned. I'm 2 weeks of the hydro myself. Already gave up huge oxy, fiorcet and benzo habit. Mine started with terrible pain as well. All I feel now are some chills. I think you'll find it shorter lived, with only 2 or 3 really rough days. It's no fun, but if you've given up oxy, you'll find this a bit easier. Post away on here...we've all been through it. SOme like me more then once. My heart goes out to those staring down the barrel so to speak. P_lease be assured it's never quite as bad as we imagine. But you know what's coming. Can you take a couple of days off??? God Bless you dear. If you'd like to email try me at rrose9@aol.com Beck
Yes Sir, this will be a ton easier than coming off of the Oxy's........ I don't ever want to go down that road again..........You were right, it is pure Hell withdrawing off of Oxy's...............I say, outlaw those damn pills..............
first off to jeff ( suboxman), i am trying to find another doc in montana who can see me... the doc who was working with me told me to get lost after he found out i had taken some lorcet when i had hurt myself at work... my fault guys...i should have talked to him about it. he is a good man. he is one of 4 mds in the state who can dispence sub... i'd LOVE to have about 20 2 mg subs... i could taper and be done. that stuff is a miracle... flat out. i disagree about outlawing pain meds . they serve a very worth while porpuse. i do however believe if a doc can rx oxycontin he should have the latitude to rx suboxone. this wonderful stuff needs to be at every docs liberty... not just some select few. 30 patients per doc is a travisty... i believe if some of the guys on these jobs i am on knew there was a way out that wouldn't kill them in the process the would jump at the chance. THIS POST is where i heard about it last year. that is going to be part of the advocacy... letting people know about suboxone. maybe if enough of us start to scream about it it will become more widely used and despensed... hopefully by any old doc who demms it nessasary.
