I promised myself that I would watch it every week. That chick addicted to gambling was smoking like no tomorrow. LOL
But the guy addicted to crystal meth?? Why are so many people addicted to it? I dont see what it does? Except ruin peoples lives...
How was everyones Easter? I had the family thing as usual.
Kiwi,,,,,,,,,,man! I forgot to watch! I always forget it. Would you mind posting a reminder on Sunday's if you don't mind?
It has always been my understanding that there is nothing in crystal meth. that is physically addicting. Is that wrong? I thought it was just an assortment of poisonous chemicals mixed with some antihistimines.

It causes severe mental addiction. It's a mental addiction to the high and to continue chasing that high.
My boyfriend and I watched it last night and it's eerie how it affected us both. I had a dream that he relapsed and I caught him and he ended up telling me that he's been using since he supposedly quit (November 12, 2004). He ended up having some using dreams (which he still has every once in a while). We both thought that it must have been a result of us watching the show.
Next week is another crystal meth addict (it looks like a young married woman).

I taped it last night and just now watched the show. The lady with the gambling problem went home with her husband. Then she got help 3 months later! If they would have left her standing in the streets, I think she may have got help right then. She would have ran out of cigs that's for sure! She gave smoking like a chimmney a new meaning! Brain with the meth problem has been in rehab 9 times. They said he was in the rehab for 40 days and got kicked out. He says he is still clean living in Florida!
Meth is very addicting. I have snorted it a few times years ago and it feels like glass is going up your nose, it is VERY painful. I could have never had an ongoing addiction with it because it makes your nose so raw from doing it. That is probably why he was shooting it and eating it.
Nest week is about a woman with a meth problem, she is such a pretty girl. It's ashame she is doing that to herself and her family.

That show is riveting, I don't move from the couch for an hour. Its amazing to look into peoples lives like that, and hear whats in their head, what they think justifies their behavior.
Next week looks like a really good one, a young woman addicted to meth who loses everything.
Makes me realize recovery isn't all that bad.

Will someone please post a reminder next Sunday about the show? I have CRS (can't remember Shi*) and always forget to watch it.
I am ashamed to admit this, but I once did meth. everyday for about 6 months. Then one day I decided to quit, and did. I just went to bed for a couple of days, and then I got up was fine. Never had any problems. But I guess I was ready to quit, and had the mental strength to do it. Everyone doesn't want to quit when they need to. That stuff is nasty. : (
those families one that show really show how enabling truely hurts the addict more than it helps us... If the interventions had come sooo much sooner and with the same convictions maybe who knows maybe the addictions wouldnt have ruined the families lives as well as ruined the addicts lives as well.... I am thankful everyday that if I have to have been cursed with this disease that my family didnt play around with me and I got caught by the law... I wasnt enabled to the point that I took everyone down with me... and my bottom was as low as it could have been.
just my thoughts...

Rae - what channel is the show on here? Sounds interesting. I've never done meth (only methadone) - I've heard of it - is it the same as crank? My daughter tells me alot of kids smoke it - they put it in a tin foil "boat" and burn the bottom and inhale the smoke with a straw - dont they do that with heroin too? I saw a movie on lifetime once called "Chasing the Dragon" and the girl smoked the heroin like that - ruined her life too. I used to do alot of coke when I was younger - never tried that other stuff though - my daughter told me if these kids keep smoking it it will "freeze" their lungs - is that scary or what??
So is this show on every Sunday? I have CRS too!!!! LOL
Take care.
Love,
Marie

Marie,
It's on A&E... sunday nights at 9 or 10 pm , I'll have to look again to make sure of the time. I don't know much about it. I did my share of coke and was at this party one night a few years ago. Anyway, I thought it was coke but it burned real bad and I asked WTF and he said oh it's meth. So needless to say it wasnt my DOC. The show though is pretty cool, I think you would enjoy watching it. My understanding of meth is it's one of hte hardest drugs to quit. The psycological withdrawals are worse then any as the body stops producing, not seritonin, but another chemical directly tied in with feeliong well. I heard a psycologist say a heavy user may never understand what it means to feel well again. I have a sister-in-law who used heavily for 10 years and literally broke her brain. SHe is now schisophrenic (ms) and will never be well.
Yes, I watched the show last night and, I have to tell you.... it breaks my heart each week when I watch because I realize over and over again the hurt I put my husband through.
I did crystal meth once, in 1992..... I had been doing coke for about a year (not all the time, but on the weekends with friends when someone had money)..... One day, a girl that I got coke from didn't have anything but meth and so I bought that.... She swore it was like coke and I didn't think any more about it....
What she forgot to mention was that a tiny little bit would last for HOURS.... I kept doing bumps of it, thinking it was like cocaine and you needed to do a little bit every trip to the bathroom....
A couple of hours later, I was in the ER with what was officially my first panic attack (and practically an overdose). My heart was racing, I felt like a crazy woman, trapped in my skin.... The nurse kept threatening to call my parents, I had to stay on a heart monitor.... it was horrible.
That was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. I know what's in meth, I know how it's made, and I know a little bit about it's effects. The drug does damage to your brain that CANNOT be repaired...... it eats away at the brain and puts holes in it, causing a "swiss cheese" effect.
Would you drink Drano? Would you pour nail polish remover over your food and eat it? Would you take chemicals that are literally used for fuel or for cleaning tar off the roads and put it up your nose? No? Well that's exactly what you're doing when you do meth.
Sure, there is pure meth that doesn't have all that crap in it and is made by chemists and all of that.... but that meth is very rare and hard to come by. Now you have burn-outs making meth in their garage, burning their houses down, poisioning themselves with fumes, adding any cheap chemical they can to the drug to make more money.
That's why I always liked pills.... at least I knew what was in each pill, what the dose was in each, and what I was putting in my mouth.

Watched the show, and what got to me the most was how careless Brian became when high. Having sex with anyone who would meet him. So not only did the meth harm his body, but because of it he has had a ton of STDs. They didn't mention HIV, but I wondered.
I felt so sorry for him, such a good looking kid in all that trouble. I had more trouble relating to the gambler. My thought always was "Why waste money on gambling when you can buy drugs with it?" Maybe I should've chosen gambling!

I use to love going to vegas. I would usually take twice as many pills when I was gambling + I could stay up all night. Sick huh????
Frank
Actually Frank, I don't think that's sick. I think most of us used the pills to enhance whatever it was that we liked to do. I used alot when I went shopping; made me very talkative and friendly with the personnel and gave me a false sense of being able to buy whatever I wanted.
I was addicted to meth when i was 17. It is so different than pills. With meth its easier to stop because when you dont take it your body starts to feel better instantly but with pills your body feels worse when you dont take it. After 2 or 3 days you feel good again. Its a wierd drug. Its horrible!! you cant eat or sleep for days after taking it.
Kiwi...I didn't watch it this last week but did watch the previous week with the gal who was addicted to Vicodin. It's a really good show. Had me in tears. I so remember what she was going through. People like that are so lucky to have family that cares enough to get them help. But to do it on TV? Yikes, not me, I hid everything to do with my addiction.

Little info on Meth---
Meth is a drug that will keep you up for days--and is used alot for sexual reasons. They have a name for it, its called Crystal D**k---you can have sex for like 48-72 hours and that still would not be enough. I remember once buying what I thought was coke, this was in the 80's so I did it like I would coke, bump here and there. I asked the girl I bought it from why i felt the wya I did and she laughed and said it was meth--I freaked--never did it before. I went to the ER the next day--they hooked my heart up for about 5 hours--gave me what they called a liquid cocktail--to calm me down--then told me that the next time I want to go out and party--not to waste thier time by coming the the ER when I over do it.
The Dr was very much to the point, and I really thought I was going to die--I never felt anything like that. I never did it again. I learned my lesson.
What I took away from that show last night was just how much we dislike outselves, but also just how much hurt we cause the people that love us.
