You should hire an attorney and ask him these questions. Legal advice sought on the internet is worth what you pay for it, i.e., nothing at all.
In my jurisdiction we have a community service option that can result in the record being expunged in the case of a first offender. Each jurisdiction is different.
I recommend that you come up with the money to pay a competent lawyer for representation. Sometimes you can get decent representation with court appointed counsel but more often than not they are overworked and will not give your case more than a cursory glance before cutting a deal with the DA.
