Baby Names--------little Funny

As today I am now gloriously happy to hear of our very own Diff seeing the baby on the scan that brings life close up and personal to us.........birth, and all things new, and what's in a name.........I relay:

No joke I had like twenty names picked out for each sex......got it down to a few.........someone asked me about names, and one of the girls names was SCHUYLER.........it's a Tuetonic name I think.....the German origin somehow I liked and that spelling.............so my friend goes "We better run it by my sister"

Sister worked in a pediatric office, and was relagated to pick up a chart and call out the children's names, and stick them in a room.....LOL.....we all know how long that wait is..........IN THAT ROOM.........I-yi-EYE.

So, here's why we run it by a person calls kids names out all day long.

We are American's obviously over here, and of course the many cultures and ethnic backgrounds are filling to the rim with brim.....right.......so she gets a chart, and calls the little girl:

SEA-O-BA-HAAN SEA-O-BA-HAAN IS SEA-O-BA-HAAN HERE??????

Nobody is answering her so she calls the last name, and promptly a woman and child get up, and the mom says "We're right here, and her name is Siobhan"...............LOL..........this chick who was young, and had no kids is telling this to us, and we're laughing our tushies off. .......I mean the kids name is SHAVAN.....call her that or spell it right!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, no you did not.

So, I ran my names past her, and she never heard any of them.....LOL...EVER.
I go here, though look at this spelling, and tell me this name.........she goes
"THAT NAME IS SHULEER..........SHOOLER......LOL.....oh forget it.!!!!!!!!!!!

ONE name my husband did not like.....ONE and it is a beautiful Welsh name.
White breasted, and we are certainly white breasted here....LOL.....so what's in a name I ask? I love Pagan Rose........we must run it by all things pediatric, and teaching.....LOL......as my daughter's name is what she looked like, and not one of my top names....I said this kid looks like THIS NAME....and it fit planetary, and astrologically too...........as is PAGAN it is a short name, and easy as pie, and it ALWAYS mispronounced.

So, Diff you need to say it phonetically maybe....LOL....if ya hit America ever.
Otherwise they'll be call PAH-GAIN PAH-GAIN.

******Note: Love the name Sian, and I had that on my important list at the end only here there was a TV speaking chick named something similar. That is an absolutely beautiful name, and I like the name Markie or marky for a girl.******

O.K. chime in people......melikebabyname posts......anyone?
Hi, Bryn

My girls' names are Christina and Juliet and my husband chose to have our son named after him and his dad...Harry IV. He was supposed to be my David because my dad's middle name was David.

Some of my favorite names are Mikayla (I prefer that spelling to Michaela), Rebekah, Angelina, Joshua, and Derek. My daughters like Emmalia, and Bryce.

My girls are really into the meanings of names. They both liked Andrew until they found out it means "crooked nose." lol

Love,
Susan
There are so many great Welsh names. I have a friend called Siani, and I think that's gorgeous. I'd love to call a girl Siani, but the friend is an ex of an ex, if you get me, and it would just feel wrong calling my daughter after my ex boyfriends ex girlfriend. Plus the fact she is on drugs, and you can't, you know. It just doesn't feel right. When I first heard my ex talking about Siani, I'd never heard that variation before, and I thought he was calling her by the diminutive, like a sweet little pet name for Sian, and I felt a bit put out!

And the Welsh boys name I really like is Conway, but another guy I know called Conway is in prison for drug dealing, and the only other Conway I know is a complete nut! I'm trying to think of people I actually admire, maybe historical figures, people who stood for something good, who's names I could nab! Maybe Owain Glyndwr - but there are a million and one Owen, or Owains in Wales. David Lloyd George? Nah... And as for women, I admire Elizabeth I, but got no time for Elizabeth II, and besides, my sister already used that one. Boudica? Perhaps a little ambitious...

My favourite flowers, well, Rose, yes a beautiful name. Lily, very pretty too, and I think Lily Allen is great, and her father, the infamous actor Keith Allen is a local man. Lily of the Valley is my mother's fav flower, and she had a bouquet of them when she got spliced to my ole man - but isn't lily the flower of death or something? My favourite gem stones - Amythyst - a bit of a mouthful, but could be shortened to Amy I guess. And what girl doesn't love diamonds, but a bit pretentious. Jade - another lovely name but I know someone called jade and I really dislike her. Amber - I like that but I have an early memory of being locked in a chicken shed and almost stabbed with a pitchfork by a girl called Amber! But hell, that was 30 years ago! My favourite virtues - Grace, I like that, but a bit grannyish. Well there's Grace Jones, and she's anything but grannyish. Honour - a great virtue but I'm not sure it's a name that is easily carried. Joy? No, I'm not sure. Daisy - nice kids name, but what if she wanted to be a politician - nobody would take her seriously! And no, I'm not calling her Condolisa! Or Margaret!

I have a great Aunt, or at least I did, till she went missing from her mental institution 25 years ago and was never seen again called Elise, and I like that name, and I think it would be an honour to call her after my aunt, but I think it's tempting fate to call her after my schizophrenic aunt, given my own mental health problems. There's so much more to this naming lark than meets the eye. And the baby's dad doesn't make life easy, coz he has terrible taste in names, and doesn't like nicknames. Nicknames are like a tradition in my family. I've been called Diff as long as I can remember, but my boyfriend has never ever called me that. And my sisters all have interesting nicknames. The only suggestion he came up with was Winifred, after his gran. No. Just no. He said he liked Rhiannon, but I know I'd end up shortening it to Rhian, or Rhi, and he already has a daughter called Rhian. So that's a non starter. I'll probably still be agonising over it when she starts school, and she'll end up being called daughter No 1, or the government will step in and name her for me!

I've only ever named animals before, and they more or less named themselves. I had a hamster called Harriet, coz of the alliteration, a cat called Squeak, coz she used to squeak like a mouse when she was a kitten, and my husband named other cats, one called Blob and Non-blob, for obvious reasons (one had a white blob on her nose the other one didn't but Blob ran away so we were left with Non-blob, which was kinda hard to explain.) And my dog, Bill, well I never named him that, I called him Boss to begin with, but then started calling him Little Billy Boss Pup, and eventually dropped the Boss part altogether. Now he's known as Billy-Bonkers, which totally suits him! I guess when the time comes I'll know the right one. It's hard to name somebody you've never met yet!

Wow, Diff, I was shocked at how many Welsh names there are! Here's a website I found.

http://www.mybirthcare.com/favorite...erID=1017854372

Many have great meanings like greatly loved, very beautiful, and harmony, but I have NO IDEA how they are pronounced. You would probably have a good idea about that.

By the way, what is your first name and how did you get the nickname Diff? You got me curious. lol

Love,
Susan
Hi Susan, I also have a great Welsh name. Meredith. And Diff came about because apparantly when I was learning to say my name, I could only manage the last part, which came out as "diff" and my sisters picked up on this and I was Diff ever after. And it suits me just fine. I don't pronounce it the Welsh way which is mered ith, with the emphasis on the "red", but Mera-dith. The Welsh find it hard to say it the English way, so most people just say it the Welsh way. And just to confuse you even more, the Welsh sometimes spell it differently as well, Meredydd. Welsh is a complicated language, because the letters have different sounds than they do in English - and lots of word are spelt without vowels, and unless you know the Welsh letter sounds, you haven't got a hope! I live in a Welsh speaking town, so it's a case of learn it or don't ever speak!

Dear Diff,

What a pretty name...Meredith! That is cute how you got your nickname. I was glad to lose my "Sassass" one! My brother was born when I was about 14 and when he was about 2 he started to sall me "Sue-Sue" and that stuck. My husband, brother, nieces, nephews, and great-nephews still do call me that. My dad did too. My mom never did for some reason.

Love,
Susan

Just about everybody I know calls me Diff, and a fair few don't know my real name at all. My boyfriend has never called me Diff. These days he normally just calls me Fatty, and I respond to it, God help me!
