Johnny,
Normally, you can get a copy of A.A.'s Big Book or N.A.'s Basic Text at a meeting. At the break, or before or after the meeting, just ask the chair person
of the meeting for a copy. In A.A. it's suggested that we read the first 164 pages, that goes right to the core of recovery. There are a few editions of the Big Book, I have the third edition, the first 164 pages are always the same, the only difference is, as the years go by, the personal stories in the book are updated from time to time as to better relates to the new generations. The stories are good and I'm sure as you read them you'll be able to see yourself and be able to relate, and see that your not unique. None of us are. We tend to think that our story is worse or different, that nobody could possibly understand our situation. Thats another thing that I find great about meetings. We are all so much alike. Sooner or later, we hear someone speak and it sounds like there telling our story. The book doesn't cost that much, but I'm sure, for anyone that is wondering, if you can't afford it, they will see to it you get one. My dad gave me his Big Book, then baught another for himself. I've chaired quite a few meetings, and I've given a few away to people that didn't have the extra cash and really wanted one. At the time I got my N.A. Basic Text, I didn't have any money on me, but told the chair person I'd be back the following week to get one, I just wanted to know how much. Before I left the meeting, I was given one.
My wife baught one, so I gave mine to a guy I helped get into rehab so he had something to read while he was there.
Take care......................................God bless......................................Bob
