Brit

Brit is it ok to ask you a few questions? Only I saw a post and you explained that you work with people in active addiction and I am interested in getting into this type of work and wondered if you could give me a few tips etc.

Many thanks
Lynds xx

Sorry luv not been on here for a while...firstly I dont have a degree but I wanna get into counciling. Someone told me I am to do a phycology course first? Is this right? What other courses would be of use and also would I be better off doing volounteer work maybe to get into this type of work?
hey Linz, I come and go depending on my work, back now though!.
I started off volunteering at the needle exchange in my town, then when I was absolutley sure that this was the line of work i wanted to be in I went to night school, took a two year course which was condensed to one year in Social work. I have a diploma, not a degree. The place where I was volunteering saw that I was meant for the work and hired me on afterward. I have just (last Monday) started a new job. I was headhunted by another social service agency to be the outreach worker to the sex trade workers in our town, most of them I already know from the needle exchange, so I have a relationship with them already. i have only been in this field for 3 years, I am so lucky, i have been offered my dream job, I love it.
i would advise you do the volunteering route, that way you can check out different areas before you make a decision.
take care.
