Hi there.
I have super super duper amounts of the amino Glutamine in my body...i am way over the normal range by 2000.....
cant find out what that means on the internet and the holistic Dr didnt seem to know himself ...
any one has any knowledge about this???
Id really appreciate any advice..or knowledge
Ali
PS am not on that supplement at all
Starting with the basics, glutamine is one of the twenty nonessential amino acids. Nonessential does not mean that glutamine is not important, but rather the body can produce this substance itself. Sixty percent of our glutamine is found in the skeletal muscle, with the remainder residing in the lung, liver, brain and stomach tissue.
Glutamine is an excitatory neurotransmitter.
Are you taking any kind of supplements? Additional amino acids for exercise or anything like that? Lots of fish? Whens the last time you got sick (immune system got weak on ya sick) ?
I think it just means your sppppeecial :)
i'll just call you gluta-butt

Doesn't ambien affect gaba. Do you take ambien?
Ali,
Stop any amino acids you are currently taking. Tyrosine, etc. This level maybe the cause of your weight gain.

Glutamine or L-Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid found primarily in muscle tissue. Over 61 percent of skeletal muscle tissue is glutamine. It's responsible for carrying nitrogen into the muscle cell for muscle growth. Glutamine is released from the muscle cell under prolonged exercise, causing water to be discharged, dehydration, and muscle breakdown. Glutamine also plays a role in brain function, immunity, and GI (gastrointestinal) health.
Research on glutamine supplementation is scarce and conflicting. Some have found that supplementation does indeed decrease muscle breakdown under very high levels of stress to the muscle, whereas others show no improvements to muscle growth, performance, or recovery time. The one area that seems promising for glutamine supplementation is reduced incidence of infection after exhaustive exercise, boosting the immune system.
During intense training, glutamine levels are greatly depleted in muscle, decreasing strength, stamina, and recovery. It takes up to six days for glutamine levels to return to normal. Glutamine could also increase the body's ability to secrete Human Growth Hormone, which helps metabolize body fat and support new muscle growth. People may choose to take glutamine supplements to help with muscle growth, increase glycogen storage, decrease muscle breakdown, promote speedier recovery time after workouts, increase immunity, and/or enhance mental clarity and memory. People who are "cutting-down" burning fat without losing muscle may supplement for this purported purpose. The desired potential effects of glutamine cease once supplementation is discontinued.
Given the lack of conclusive research and your reasons for supplementing with glutamine, you will need to determine if it's worth the cost. In addition, dietary supplements are not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so there's no guarantee of these products' effectiveness or safety. However, if you're considering using glutamine, the recommended dose of the powdered form is between 10 - 15 grams per day, contingent upon your eating plan and exercise intensity. It is also suggested that the dose be split during the day (i.e., if you are taking 10 grams, take 5 grams in the morning and 5 grams in the evening).
Because glutamine is a naturally occurring substance in the body, when supplemented in moderation, it produces no adverse side effects. If an individual takes more than the recommended dose, however, s/he may experience stomach upset. Those with Type I or Type II diabetes need to seriously consider not supplementing with glutamine. Excess amounts of glutamine in the blood may be used to produce glucose instead of passing harmlessly out of the body. As a precaution, anyone considering starting a regimen that includes glutamine supplementation needs to consult a medical provider, nutritionist, or other qualified health care professional first.

Wow
Thank you..i knew this was the place to ask...lets see..
Yukis Mom...Im not taking any glutamine and never did..my tests were done twice to make sure there was no error, and the Dr said something about people who have high levels of something (lolol something of mine that was high..lol) are prone to anxiety and panic attacks..something to do with blood sugar levels??
They told me to call back if i had any questions which i will have to do...he goes over the lab results and its hard to take it all in...at least for the stuff ive never heard of...low in estrogen...yup get that...low in serotonin...no..ya think??? amazingly enough I was fine with the dopamine....dhea was really high...and aldotesterone was really low ( consistent with low salt diet...i dont use salt..)
So from what i understand...i will live to be 100 (high dhea) but be grumpy as heck with unbalanced raging hormones???...lolol
Amy...(wink) weight gain??/ what weight gain???? lolol did i mention weight gain on this board?? probably...and according to the holistic Dr...its justified cus my thyroid and adrenals are not so great...
Adrenals STILL exhausted...even though im on the adrenal supplements....but not as low as they were 4 months ago...and that in turn must be throwing off my thyroid? im guessing...have to do some research on that..
He put me on some iodine...2 drops in water twice a day....and stronger adrenal support ( much like what i bought at the health food store but higher milligrams...then finally some kind of hormone cream...to be rubbed on an area of my body with no fat every day ( Now just where is THAT supposed to be...im fat all over..lolol) except during week of menses...
Oh and Amy i havent taken the tyrosine for months...only took it during the withdrawal period...and i truly believe it helped big time with "cravings" and thats what its being touted for lately..an "anti-addiction pill" ( CRINGES FROM ALL THE 12 STEPPERS ACROSS THE BOARD....LOLOL)
Anyway..thanks to everyone that answered my question..i swear not one place on line said what too MUCH Glutamine/Glutamate was all about....only what LACK of it is...
Glutamine levels should be at 150-400 for day; 100-350 night...I had 2,076.7..
Glutamate...i had 45.5 and it should be 8-20....
Wonder if years of using narcs can cause this..if anyone else has a hormone/brain chemicals check and also has high levels of this please let me Know...
Thanks again...Skeeter, Brooke, Yukis mom, Amy...(PM) How can ya not love nurses???lol
Hugs

POST SCRIPT
IF i walked away from my appointment ( lab results in hand) with anything at all...it is how unbelievably important it is to keep everything in moderation..
Once you screww one thing up...another is affected, which affects another....its unbelievable...the Chaos theory....
It seems that use of narcs, messes up your serotonin levels....which makes you feel stressed and sad etc....which in turn puts your adrenals in jeopardy of working over time....if that happens, ( or in our cases here..WHEN that happens....it increases our cortisol levels and we start to get fat.....which is stressful in itself....
Now throw some natural hormone changes that we women go through, and it really isnt surprising that we are barely getting through our days, never mind living a life of passion.......and feeling joy...
Good news is that once you know better...you can do better....after listening to me at the first appointment, he have me a general synopsis as to what the tests would come back as....and he was right....but even he didnt see the high levels of glutamine/glutamate coming...lolol
Oh well knowledge is power...and once we know whats wrong and why we felt so s***ty long after when we stopped using...we can at least do something about it.....
N'est-pas????????

Ali,
Sounds like you are on the right track in gathering the info. The person who drew the labs should be able to do the homework to tell you about the high level effects.
Also, sorry if it wasn't you that mentioned weight gain. It was something I read a long time ago somewhere in regards to supplements. Anyway, never mind about that then! Smile.
love,
Amy

Ali I thought you were taking gaba? sp?
If I were you I would take everything you are taking into the doctor show them. Sometimes we take things and have no idea what the fillers are.
And we can get the synergy effect from all the crap we take.
As you know some can be toxic to our system.
