Hello everyone, it's been a rough day. Finally got the guts to go cold turkey again and so far the wd are not as bad as the last time. Except no way I can sleep. In 5 hours my tired a** is going to be headed to work for a 12 hour shift and no way I can take off again. The monkey keeps saying go on and use and when that glow starts it will feel so good and all that energy you will have. Pain pills have controlled my life to many years and I've known it to long. I have all the otc meds but what about sleep last time it was over a week before I got a good nights sleep. tylenol pm does nothing. Any suggestions?
Hi Rascal;
Sorry no one was up to respond to you, I know what that is like, being a chronic insomniac. I too abused pills for yrs...........I too would try to stop on my own, only to start up again after 1 wk, 2wks, 1month, 6 wks etc.
This is truly a disease.........what would you do if you had any other deadly disease? Most people would get help.........I struggled with taking time out of my life to get help, but it was the best thing for me, it was only 2 1/2 wks, I've taken vacations that long.......and now I am so much more productive with out the pills, I like you thought the pills were the source of my energy, and they are, very short term......In the long term they are killing us, on the installment plan.
Sorry I have to be so short, I have to get ready for my early bird meeting........surprising how many professionals are there.......lots of medical professionals....that takes guts.

If you can get to a doctor asked them for Trazadone, for sleep it is non addictive, non narcotic, and you will sleep. It is an old anti depressant they use for sleep. .25 mg. 50mg 100mg.
Or, ask for 5-10 Ambien pills, short term, on these. Ones body can become dependent on them for the long term. You will not become addicted to 5-10 pills, that is more than enough to get you thru this. I would op for Trazadone.
Bottom line, ask the Doctor what he suggests for sleep during your wd.
If you can't get to a doctor, try OTC benedryl liquid.
Others will type soon on what helped them..

Stay away from Ambien!!!! (Not to try to contradict Brook) I, and every single person that I know that has taken this drug has horror stories. Hallucination, amnesia, etc... I feel like it did permanent damage to my memory as I took it for well over a year. My husband refuses to write it anymore. Like Brookshire said, Trazadone would be a good choice. Good luck and hope you can catch some ZZZZZZZZ's.

The only thing that works is time. You'll be doing your body a bigger favour in the long run by taking nothing and letting your body heal properly. Rest your body, it's had enough drugs for a while. Taking more meds will just upset the whole process and biochemistry. Even if you do take something, you know it won't be a good sleep anyway. Hot baths work better than any drug. Load it with Epsom salts and lavender, grab a book and relax. You will sleep again. You're body is not a suicide machine, it will require sleep and you'll hit a brick wall and sleep eventually. For me it took 3 weeks for quasi normal sleep and a month for normalcy.
All the best and good luck.

Sunshine, how did you stop the ambien? Did you just quit? I have been taking it on and off since last spring. Pretty much on because I havent been able to sleep. Did you just stop taking it or did you switch to the trazadone?
I never had those problems, but I didn't take it every night either.. Trazadone worked better for me in terms of sleeping through the night. But it did make me feel groggy the next day. If I took it early then the grogginess wasn't so bad.
I don't think he will get in trouble having 5-10 pills to help him over the hump.
But good advise in terms of how they effected you. Everyone reacts differently to medications. Something he could run past his doctor.
I know certain Rehab Detox Centers give them , for the short term. The key is 'short term'.

I just stopped taking them, Wive. They have the potential to be very dangerous. I know that it is the #1 prescibed sleep-aid, however, any physician that has personal experience with this med will be hesitant to write it. My friend recently underwent some cosmetic surgery and was given Ambien. She hallucinated so badly that she went to the ER. When she told him what she had taken, he wasn't at all surprised and said that last time HE took it, he opened his fridge to see mice dancing inside having a good ole time. Needless to say, he is not a big fan either. The key is to take it and go right to bed. NO screwing around...no going to the kitchen, nothing. And, like Brook said, no more than 7 days. I can't believe how many Dr.'s gave that to me for so long and never questioned it.
I had a really tough week or so once I stopped taking them before I could sleep. I think it was mostly physcological, though as far as dependance. How long have you been taking them (you might have said, I don't recall).

Hello,
You have to understand that you didnt get into this mess overnight and it won't correct ifself over night either.
Like you said, you have been abusing and been addicted to drugs for many, many years now. So when you quit, even so its cold turkey the body ain't gonna just snap back into place. Your tought your body to become addicted to the drugs and poison so when you take it away the body and brain get upset and fight back.
All you can do is suffer it out. But then again by suffering like this hopefully it will make you NOT to want to do drugs again and again and relapse again and again....
Suffer once get it over with and move on with you life. If you feel like popping pills again just think about all the sleepless nights you are having....
When I stopped CT after abusing on/off for a 1yr I didnt sleep for 10 days. Yes 10 days at all!!! I was a mess....
But not that I encourage this, I went and got ativan from my doctor. I used it for 2 weeks to help kick my body back into sleep mode and by time I was done using those for 2 weeks and the 10 days I didnt sleep, things were better...
But its time to pay the pipper now. Ne free rides with this stuff.

Thanks Tracy...I guess that happened to my mom too. She thought she was on a friggin boat!! My dad had to tell her she was in bed and she didnt even listen to him. After I heard that my sister told me that she thought their was a monster in her room. Yikes. She had her son check her room. He is 23 and was just ROLLING his eyes at her I guess.
well it is my 11th day today so hopefully I can get some good sleep tonight.I so need it.............as far as any sleeping pill........trazadone really screwed with us....both myself and hun were on that crap.for sleeping..OMG we almost divorced on our honeymoon in Hawaii.........it was so bad we threw the crap away and when we had my son in rehab for pot they wanted to put himon it and when I told them no.I was told I was a mom who didn't care to see my son get well..............not the case........noone deserves to go thru the sh*8 we did being on that.the nightmares........agression, and still being tired to name a few........WEIRD WEIRD s***.and as far as ambian...my god it was like having a hangover everyday............let alone for my hun.he gets up at 3:15 am to go to work.eventhough hewould take the stuff at 7 pm.he was still "DRUNK" on his way to work and had several near accidents until we dumped them to......now he sticks to melatonin.and once my body starts working right , it may work again for me.......
