Changing Sponsors

Hello, As most of you know who post here regularly my Sponsor moved away last week and I have been with her since day one for me...I have mixed emotions about the whole situation....she said she can sponsor me from a far and I didn't question it with her...last night I met with a woman who has seen me around ever since I first got sober and she and I agreed that I definitely am the type of recovering drunk that needs to have someone who can see me, hear and make eye contact with me to keep me in check...left to my own devices I stand a pretty good chance of picking up a drink and/or drug again, and I absolutely cannot risk it, and shirk on any aspects of the Program. Any suggestions on how to broach this to my current Sponsor? Thank you.
Hi VW
How about just plain old honesty? I am sure if you just tell her you need someone that is nearer she will understand. Any good sponsor would. Congratulations on not waiting around. Even though she says she can still sponsor you, I think it's better to have someone that can look you in the eye, don't you?
Hey VWGirl sometimes we answer our own questions, in the question. Trust your instinct, K.I.S.S and good to see you got it out of your head alone and onto the posts.

read your post and then say exactly that to your sponsor she will understand and if i follow my instinct on this one, i think she is providing you with some life on life terms decision making, very wisely of course. The thing is, with todays communication she will always be in touch. And if this other lady seems ok well why not, there is no such thing as coincidences. I think you know the answer and so does your old sponsor, she's just waiting for you to tell her.

Ginge has got your mail, i've talked to him on the phone and may catch up with him on Sunday.

Light and love Zac
12 S - Imagine that honesty...geez, why didn't I think of that! Thanks for the suggestion...simple as that, honesty, I usually take uncomfortable situations and make them more complicated than they need to be and then back myself into a wall and then finally let God take control...again, progress not perfection!
Hi VW Girl,

How about this, TWO SPONSORS. Why not? I have 2....well 3 if you include the one up North who I still do call. If they realize its not all about them I doubt they would mind. Sometimes it helps to get different perspectives, as long as it isn't contradictory or confusing. Mine dovetail very nicely. One sponsor I call in the mornings and the other, if necessary, I call in the evenings (the other one is in bed by 8:30 pm). I find it a great help, as well as a great way in building relationships.
Thanks everyone...good sound suggestions...I'll be contacting my current Sponsor today, I just can't walk around with stuff in my head! I go craaaaaaaaaazy....then I have to go right back to Step 2!

Zac, thanks for the message about Ginge...if you talk to him today, have him call me at work. Thank you!
Hey girl,
Yeah, I'm the same way...have to have that face to face.

Its hard when sponsors move, I think you are wise to get another one. It certainly doesn't mean you have to lose touch with her though.

Your doing so well with it all. Very proud!!

love,
C
Thanks Avondale Girl ~ I'm pretty sure I've secured another Sponsor! Hooray! She has given me clear cut direction on how to use a "far away" Sponsor and then have her as my "local" Sponsor. I'm made myself sick over this whole thing and now I am getting some relief, steps 1, 2, and 3 ~ Thank God!
Its stressful... thats for sure.

Then compound the obsessive compulsive tendencies of this disease...jeez its a wonder we function at all sometimes..LOL!

At least thats how I feel about myself . I thought I was ok in the head when I was drinking. Now that I'm almost 2 years sober...man, am I screwed up!!

Thats ok though,I've got great support like you and the other ladies of the program, and the program!!

How was your 4th of July?....mine was fun...had a good sober time with other sober people...just like I like it.

C
Hi C ~ Yep, when I start with that thinkin' boy sometimes I can think myself into some pretty wild scenarios that haven't even occurred yet! My head, yikes, that could be a bad neighborhood to be in sometimes ~ lol! I'm glad you are doing so well...I had a great 4th of July, it was the 22nd Annual South Bay Roundup here in the area of SoCal where I live...so much fun...great Speakers, great food, great Bands, went to the "AA Prom" (big banquet dinner) on Saturday with my boyfriend and we got all decked out ~ I even wore a glittery outfit...I'll try to post a pic when I get them. Anyhoo, you would have loved the closing ceremonies...this guy from my high school, starts with is there any one with 70 years sobriety...and counts down all the way to anyone in the room (of about 1000 sober alcoholics) with less than 24 hours of sobriety ~ there was one little gal that stood up and walked up on stage and got her very first Big Book signed by all the Speakers...talk about getting choked up. Since I'm a two year old ~ I sat with my gal pals that came into the Program with me (Class of 2003) and we all stood up...the MC said hey look at all those 2 year old women, quick send an Alanon over there...too funny! I love reading your posts...keep up the good work!
HI VWGirl
Glad you got the sponsor situation sorted out. I can imagine that was very stressful for you. Even though your sponsor has moved it doesn't mean you've lost a friend :)

Sounds like you've been having a busy fun time. Just wanted to say hi.
