Chantix

Hey CowGirl, Hey Jackofhearts, this is for you guys...and anyone else interested....CHANTIX WORKS!! I have used it and it really works!!....the way it works in lay terms is like this....you start on day one, or week one taking a low dose....one tab in the morn, one tab at night...keep smoking....go ahead... by week 2 or sooner, the smokes start to make you feel sick, you will not enjoy it, I repeat, you will hate the taste, you will hate the feeling, but you will still attempt to smoke until you finally say.....the he'll with this!!! Then you have quit! I must put a disclaimer in though....you cannot miss a dose of your med.....all must be taken every day, and with food....or you will be nauseous for like 5 min.....furthermore, you will have "strange" dreams...not bad really, but WEIRD! That's all really for side effects. Oh and take this for a couple of months....like 3, until you're good and done! Just because by week 2 or 3 at the latest you will have stopped smoking doesn't mean you stop the meds....ok? Oh and one other thing, it costs about $100 a month....with insurance, without ins...doesn't matter...they won't cover it...but it's CHEAPER than cigs right??? Let me know how it goes....good luck...prepare yourself because you will succeed! Are you ready to quit! Go for it....Jax
Ive heard about this drug- - sounds encouraging
Ill keep ya informed
Hi Thanx for the information. I already hate smoking and Im so sick of myself for not being able to quit.
Hello all,Granny here,
I was going to mention Chantix just never got to it. To Jessi L.and jackofhartzz ,I used it and I haven't smoked for about 31/2 years now. The grandkids made me do it. They were living with us along with their chain-smoking mother and although we put the kabaash on smoking in the house it still affected the kids. (They are twins, preemie to boot (4 pounds) and mom smoked thru her entire pregnancy. God how I hated that. She had lost 7 other babies ,singles, prior to meeting my son so you'd think she'd have stopped as soon as she found out she was pregnant. We knew at 8 weeks there were 2. Besides there being twins the doctor told her he had no doubt that she would be able to carry these to term unlike the past ones. But she never once even slowed down !!) When they first moved in(we bought our house when they were 3 yrs old) they were always getting colds, flu, coughs, you name it. When we put a stop to indoor smoking it all stopped for the most part, except for an occasional illness caught from school. That was enough to open my eyes to stop smoking.
ANYWHO, The kids were always telling me,Grandma you shouldn't smoke. How can you look into those eyes and say no ?? And what kind of example ars you setting for them?? You tell them it is sssssoooooo bad for them and to never start all the while you are doing yourself ??
I had heard of Chantix from my Texs cousin, who still hasn't quit, about 4 years ago. I got a script from my Dr. and with a little help from my Ralphs pharmisist and AAA, I got my script for less than $100.00. Since I didn't smoke that much I was on the lower milligram. I found the way to do it is to identify "your triggers". Smoking after a meal, knowing how many you smoke on the drive to work, when you go out for breaks ect. I used the hard candy Werthers to suck on when I felt the urge to smoke and kept myself busy. You CAN smoke during the beginning when you first take it but you should stop when advised. Sometimes the craving is so strong I gave in a couple times and just took a couple drags. Thats all I needed and as time went by I found myself going longer and longer. In about 12 - 14 weeks I was done. I used the first bottle and about 3/4 of the second and haven't smoked since I'm proud to say. The grandkids thought it was so cool, and still do, along with piercing my tongue.
Now I'm sure it may not be as easy for many as I think it was for me but try it. I know a couple people who absolutely could not take the Chantix as it made them very ill, and my husband almost made it but ran out of $ to get another script,so he is still smoking but not as much.
The list of side effects is horrendous but DONT let it scare you from trying it. If you sincerely want to quit give Chantix a chance.

Best of luck,Granny
I have bipolar disorder + addiction
I tried chantix - it made me hypomanic
sorry - it was no good for me.
I have a friend that this worked for her also. She was having the bad dreams and started taking the second dose at dinner. Problem solved. Not sure if that would work for everyone.
Made me sicker than a dog. Tried it on 3 different occasions with the drs help adjusting dosage etc..I have a weight problem and this med made me so sick that I lost more weight, can't afford that.

For me, it's got to be cold turkey. When I'm done, I'll be done. I know that about myself. The E-cigs do work well..just have to give them a chance. I'm on day 3 of that now. I have the one without nicotine and so far, I'm ok. Edgy and cranky but haven't killed anything yet. AND, I'm eating more..so that's a good thing.

I really think that diet and excersize is key in quitting smoking too. Just like with withdrawals from opiates, exersize really helps. Get your mind on something else.

Chantix is a good med and I hope people will give it a shot at least.

I really want to live long enough to see great grandchildren and if I keep smoking, that's not going to happen.

Big hugs Jax
I took chantix - it caused a peculiar side effect, burning itching of the mid back area.
It also made me hypomanic ( I have bipolar disorder)

I called the drug co and reported my side effects.
have since learned that it can cause a lot of behavioral disturbances.
For some - it may work great.
BTW
Chantix has been associated with a large number of behavioral disturbances.
A lot of doctors don't like it !
