Hi all, just watched that film and trying to understand my friends son's heroin addiction, is Christiane F an accurate portrayal of what H addiction is like?
Thanks.
Izzy
Hey Iz,
The film I didn't see........I read "Wir Kinder Vom Banhof Zoo", and if the movie paid it any justice I'd say ya got some idea.........then again I'd have to see how they made the movie........you know how it goes when the make a film taken from a book........example "Basketball Diaries"........the book by Jim Caroll was excellent..........then that movie with Leo DiCaprio was a hit mess....the real Jim Caroll is still alive.........I'm not positive, but I think Christiane may have passed away..........such a pretty little waif the real Christiane.
Hoping your friends son gets some help.........it's an awful addiction........thinking of your friend as well........it's not easy loving a heroin addict I know that.

I found that film quite disturbing, was on my mind for ages after, still sometimes think about it. It was one of the "drug" films that my bf had, i think he thought it was a more real portrait of heroin than other films.
Thanks, I heard Christiane had a son in 1996, not sure if she's dead now but i do know that she went back to drugs on and off during her 20's...
Anyway,
Cheers.

I looked on the internet, the last news they had on her was for 2007 and that she was living in Berlin with her son i think. Said that she struggled with addiction for many years after the film. Eventually going onto a methadone treatment programme. I can't remember if it said she was clean now...or on methadone maintanece. I didn't get time to check properly and read more info. But that i got off just typing her name into a google search.
Maybe I'm being naieve but Heroin seems so hard to get out of your life once it's in there, it must be one hell of a high that so many people find it hard to get off and stay off. It changes a part of the brain doesn't it in a way that alcohol and other drugs doesn't... am I right? Just trying to get my head around it and understand better. I don't want to judge anyone as I am myself getting over an alcohol addiction.
Cheers,
Izzy

I have just bought the book H : The autobiography of a child prostitute and heroin addict (by Christiane F) from a second hand online bookstore. They're quite pricey but I managed to get a cheaper copy so I'll have a read of that and see how it compares to the film. I'll post back once I've read it having seen the film already.
Thanks for the input guys.
