Quick Question,
Once a long time IV heroin addict and as equally a long time
pot smoker (24/7)...now claims that he smokes 'chronic' to keep his
heroin urges at bay (rather cynical about that)...but can't continuous
smoking of such a potent form of marijuana mess up one's mind
too?
toke to me please,
MARY
oh well so much for asking advice on this forum....i didn't mean to offend anyone by signing out with 'toke to me' it was a joke geez
i smoked pot many moons ago
and i had to give up because it made me
too paranoid...but the old ex bf smokes
'chronic' which i think is just as
detrimental as shooting heroin

Mary, I thought it was amusing. I don't know much about chronic except that it is a virtually seedless type of smoke cultivated by culling out all the male parts of the plant thus creating a more potent drug...some say higher THC, but I don't know. It does make people rather stupid and listless if you ask me...it's strong stuff, kinda like thai stick from back in the day, which was dipped in either opium or hash oil...more mind-bending herb...it can deffo mess you up.

Dear MomNMore,
thank you ever so much for responding to me...normally i would post on the Family and Friends Board but it seems everybody is still on summer vacation there perhaps it the same here....but since when does addiction ever take a vacation too?
the ex bf has come down with severe bronchitis and his doctor told him he'd have to give up the cigarettes but the ex bf told him he is going to keep on smoking pot. It is when he is smoking chronic or skunk weed that he starts hacking uncontrollably and coughs up this terrible thick green mucus (i hope you are not eating at this time) LOL
thanx again Mom and you are so much More

"Cough to get off" we used to say...it's a real hardship on the respiratory system and die-hard smokers always thinks it's somehow 'better for you' than cigarettes...*sigh*
obviously chronic still messes u up but it probably isn't as bad as heroin, dont get upset that no1 replied, we all have our own problems and none of us are experts on the topic...that is why we are here, btw i didnt even realise u used the word 'toke'. maybe u should consider speaking to a drug councellor or a doctor who deals with drug abuse everyday, they will be able to giv u more answers than anyone on here. I used to smoke 30-40 bongs a day and it is soooo hard to give up 'cold turkey' i saw a doctor and he has given me a script for valium for a short period just to help me overcome the cravings, however the risk is that he might get addicted to that. im not expert on the subject so speak to someone who is
Hi Mary,
Just read your post and thought Id share with you.
Your ex boyfriend is still in active drug addiction. He may have put down smack but hes picked up pot. He says that the pot is helping him with his cravings for smack, so what would happen if he couldnt get any pot? Would he use smack again?
In truth, it doesnt matter if an addict is using pot or smack, crack, booz or pills. Its all the same. And you should try to look at it like that. If he is using pot its as bad as him using smack.
I think one of the key things that I got from your message is that this person is your ex-boyfriend not your current one. Have a look on the net about people in relationships with addicts and see what it says. The general theme is that by helping active addicts we are actually harming them. Try to cut this person from your life and if you cant ask yourself why. Quite often the enabler is addicted to the addict. Im not saying this is you, but it is a very normal pattern for people in that situation.
Best of Luck

MattB (correct me if i got it wrong)
You are correct...frankly it is hard to relate to him anymore and any contact i have with him seems so artificial as i don't drink and drug and that is a drag for me as well for himself.
He has a gaggle of these 'secret people' he hangs out with and i know that they are drug users and dealers that he used to hang out with before he met me over nine years. He just finished up 5 years of probation for a heroin trafficking charge reduced to possession....he was very lucky as he originally was facing about 10-12 yrs of prison. He also was smoking pot while on probation..so much for probation officers doing their jobs.
He has hardly any income but he still manages to maintain a good supply of pot....methinks he is a 'runner' but of course he denies it
Hey i use to drink and smoke pot many many years ago but i gave that all up when i came into recovery. I know that if i started smoking pot again after all these years i would be soon drinking as well. So i am rather skeptical that his pot smoking keeps heroin urges totally at bay.
the guy is almost 57 years old..when the frick is he ever gonna
grow up?
thanx for listening MARY
