Clonidine

Greeting fellow earthlings...
Does Clonidine help with withdrawls? I was just wondering. Any replies would be helpful.

Love,
Deirdre
Yes, clonidine (catapres) is one of the medications available that can significantly lessen withdrawals. Because it is a treatment for high blood pressure it can cause low blood pressure and a Drs supervision is important.
Silent Partner...
My blood pressure is already low, will that cause further problems? It is not being done under a Dr.'s supervision, by the way.

Deirdre
Yes, it will cause problems and can be very dangerous if you are hypotensive.

I advise you to try other options
D,

I agree. This could be very dangerous. Anyone taking this should be monitored by a doctor. Those with low BP really cannot take it at all. My physician and I talked about possibly using it for me at one time. My BP is usually on the low side of normal, and he said NO, unless it were to skyrocket during WD. Not worth the risk.
CURIOUS...HOW DID YOU GET THE CLONIDINE,
IF YOU ARE NOT UNDER DOCTORS CARE?

IT IS A PRESCRIPTION PILL.

DOESN'T GETTING CLEAN IN ALL WAYS,
MEAN WE MUST STOP ALL ADDICT BEHAVIOUR, INCLUDING
SELF TREATMENT AND GETTING PILLS FROM OTHER THAN
A DOCTOR?

JUST A THOUGHT.

Hey Rose

Good to see ya

My husband is prescribed clonidine, but he is still taking vasetec? I don't know but he's taking another bp med so we have tons of clonidine laying around, but my bp is always normal or low, so I went ahead and Xed that out...

However Deirdre, get you some L-Tyrosine, take one in the morning on an empty stomach, also get some 5htp and take 1-2 (i only take one) with some B6 with a meal later on in the day.

also take a multi with this in the morning.

I swear I can tell it is working, I haven't been on them much, I was and then just forgot and I could tell a difference with how i felt,

Stac
Stacey!

and my hate relationship with msn!!!

ha ha...cute!
I am sorry but I have to give my expereince with the clonidine. My doctor gave it to me because my heartrate was so high and so was my blood pressure. They worked so well for me and made me stop having anxiety attacks. I started abusing them and was up to 15 of them a day. They did not get me high but I have always felt like the more I take of something the more it helps. Anyway, I went to the doctor and told him what I was doing and he told me he could not believe I was still standing and he has never seen anyone with a clonidine problem. Well I will say I was still not sleeping at this time and those little pills were like my salvation. Whenever I would start to feel anxeity I would take one and the more I took the more I had to have. This went on for a few months and finally after going to the doctor he told me to ween down off of them. I knew there was noway in weening down off of anything so I stopped completely and had about a week of horrible anxiety but it went away and melody was always checking my heartrate and my blood pressure because the doctor was so adiment about me stopping them completely and I could have a stroke so that is my experience with clonidine. I wish he never would have prescribed them to me and me and taking pills even if they dont get me high it is just the idea of something going in my mouth and I became very obessive with these pills. So please be carefull if you do get on it. I am not sure if I have ever heard of anyone having this probelm but it is addict behavoir and please make sure your doctor knows exactly what your symptoms are and always keep an eye on your blood pressure. Just my own opinion and my experience with the clonidine.

Out of love and concern,
April
Hi Deirdre - I really think that the L-Tyrosine can help with w/d's. Also the B-6.
When I went c/t last fall (which didn't last) I used both, and it helped with energy.

Anyway, good luck and take care of yourself.
Emptnester and everyone else...
I only have a few Clonidine to get me through the worst. I am afraid I will become really manic and lose my job or something. I cannot take any mood stabilizers because I am allergic to all of them. Besides I don't really like Clonidine it just makes me tired. I will just do it the old-fashioned way like I have done a billion times in the past.

Love,
Deirdre
I dont know if you are joking about taking 15 a day but my sub dr told me some people abuse clonodine because it "relaxes" them
No I was not joking about taking fifteen clonidine a day and it did make my heartrate come down but as far as relax me. Hell no. I was going through the most horrible withdrawals and they like everything else I became addicted to them. But I did not get any high and this was very dangerous and my doctor says he has never heard of anyone becoming addicted to them but people talking about how they made them feel horrible . They did make me feel horrible all the time and I would get so dizzy and thought I was going to pass out but if you would have been going through what I was going through you maybe could undertand why I took so many. I am an addict and when something helps me a little bit I think more will help me even more. This only made me regret getting on them because I felt like if my body did not have them I would go into severe panic attacks. I was also coming off of 30 2 milligrams a xanax a day along with several other things. I told my doctor immedietly when I realized I was abusing them and he told me to come off of them but do it slowly, I can never do anything slowly so I came off if them all at once. I never got high or anything like that on them and though my heartrate did go down I always felt horrible on them. I am just telling him to be careful because we are addicts and we get addicted to anything that makes us feel a little bit better. God knows I would have taken anything besides my DOC to help me out but went way over board on them. I am just an addict and can very easily get addicted to anything. So I can understand if someone that was in horrible withdrawals take them but not someone who is just taken them because it relaxes them. I dont get what you were trying to tell me. I just was sharing my experience with him. He says he doesnt even like them because they made him sleepy. My god I would have taken anything non narcotic if It made me sleepy. I never could sleep the first ten months of coming off of everything. So sorry if you dont understand what I was saying and I am not at all proud of getting hooked on blood pressure pills but I did and thats my story and you know the rest Sincerely,
April
