Co-dependent

Addicts are co-dependent from what I've learned in recovery. So how does an addict work the way to becoming an independent person? By addicts being co-dependent, I express it as not just on the Meth, but the people that surrounds them. For example, an addict who just lost everyone who used to care, and when you look at it closely with the shame and the guilt wrapped up together, you automatically think about using. You want to use to medicate, and stay medicated. How does an addict come about to fight that? How should I work that out and maintain sobriety while facing reality? Any suggestions? Thanks.
When I got clean, the biggest issue I have had to deal with was co-dependancy. I had never understood what it was all about. I started reading co-dependancy books and found a website that deals with those issues. If you would like to email me I can guide you to some great reading and good info.
