Cold Turkey

Good morning all,my wife and i have come to the realization that weaning me off oxicontin is not the way to go.Two yrs ago i went CT and now im afraid but i believe this is the only way to do it.I am not getting any where at the way it is now. So i guess what iam asking is if anyone who has done this if you have any suggestions that mite help me would be greatly appritiated.Thank you VM, Brent
Shawn,
I bumped up the list of OTC meds to help with the w/d. If you have high bld pressure or other medical problems I would consult with a physician first. If during w/d you experience anything out of the ordinary or you have concerns I would recommend you seek medical care immediately. If your dose is really high it maybe best to consult with a professional about detox. Good luck.

Hi Brent:

Do you have insurance? If yes please find yourself an addiction specialist who will prescribe suboxene and get you in some for m of therapy.

Also AA/NA is recomended so you can build up a support system. But weaning of OXY? Tough to impossible.

Yeah, I've done it back at the first of the year and it was a beeeoootttccchh. My hun did it too and God, I think he thought that he was going to die, but there is no telling how much he was truly taking when he came off of it. I took 20mg twice a day and I know he was on 80mg twice a day but he always took mine cause he ran out early and he also had the 5mg instant release ones that he took. Anyhow, I did it cold turkey and I was still sick in April. Not sick, sick, but I had constant diarrhea and fell off of the wagon and went back on Lortabs. Next, I stopped Lortabs on Aug. 1st and fell off the wagon again a few weeks back. Now, I'm tapering with the Lortab's, never done this before and it is no picnic either. Anyhow, my hun had a bunch of prescriptions to help him get off of the Oxycontin. He took Clonidine, Librium, Xanax and Atenenol and I still had to break off tiny pieces of Oxy in the middle of the night and shove them down his throat to knock him out. He was really bad. If I were you, I'd certainly try the Suboxone, it has got to beat cold turkey any day.

By the way, how much are you taking everyday? Hope this has given you some answers. Good Luck.
GOOD FOR YOU MAN!!!! Just keep your eye on the prize dude...YOU WILL GET BETTER!! I am on day 8,and each day,as I said before, clarity comes, and withdrawal symptoms go.I will not give advice,,just suggestions,of things that worked for me.
First of all, kiss your wife and thank GOD for her help.I had the support of my Girl for the first few days, and it helped more than I could have ever imagined.{thank you Sandy!}As far as dealing with your pain,I too have done the CT 2x's now,and was afraid also of facing it. But I have found that is the only way to do it,so long as you are truly ready.Live that pain, and know that you will, eventually, get out of it. I kept a journal, and wrote as much about what I was feeling as I could bring myself to.It was a good reference for times when I felt better, and thought of relapsing[although I did!].But I look at it now as that I inevitably relapsed into recovery in the end.Plus there is just something about materializing how I felt, that is very therapeutic for the soul.I also took a liver cleanse supplement. One product that definately takes the edge off,at least for me,is this stuff called Anxietol 7.Do a search on it if you choose. Its like forty bucks for a months worth, but a small price to pay for some "natural" help.
All the other stuff on here I also swear by,put togehter by those who have been there also. But the most important thing you can do,is believe, even at the worst of times, that those withdrawal symptoms will pass. And you again feel "right" again. The only way out of it is to go through it brother, and I am pullin and prayin for both of us!

Brent, I tried to get off oxy's CT many times. If I made it thru WD, I would turn around and start using all over again. Just getting thru the physical part is not all it takes. I have been clean now for almost 3 weeks. I did it by using suboxone. It takes away the cravings and allows me to feel normal. Try CT. Get some support such as NA or counseling. If you can't make it thru WD, or if you do make it only to start using again, then try suboxone. You can learn about it at www.suboxone.com. Take care, Atlas
Hey, Just wanted to add here good for you all that are getting off the Oxy's.

I never was a Oxy user as it was way too much loot for me, but the few times I did them for a few weeks, that is one hell of a kick.

Stay strong, and once that WD passes you're just starting. If I could be clean for over a year from dope than I know others can do this too. I swear to you it is worth it.

One tip that helped me get through the sweating, and goose flesh, and all that was actually don't overheat yourself. Like don't wear sweatshirts, and stuff. I used to do that, and the chills get worse. You're better off just wearing a T-shirt or something, and you won't get them chills as bad. Hot baths if you have water is good too for the achy joints. It all sucks, but it's a great thing you're doing.
Atlas,
Man, I found on some mssg boards that getting off subox was nastier than getting off oxy's.Are you still on the sub? And if so...is that tru,at least as far as you know?I read alot on the stuff, good and bad,an I am just curiuos how YOU are making out.

Prayers,
Joe
