Valerie Doreen Henderson 5/12/31 to 20/03/07......Rest In Peace
My Mum died ay 4.15am on the 20th and she was a fighter till the end. As a family we have watched as emphasema has slowly ebbed her life away and ma went into hospital last saturday and didnt respond to treatment so we had a room with her so we could sleep and be with her untill she passed.
Her body is now in the coffin at our old homestead and the kids can go and touch her and draw pictures and put photos and mementos in the coffin with her as in NZ most coffins are left open till the day of the funeral and generally they are at the house were you live and as a rule someone stays near the coffin the whole time and my sisters are sleeping on the sofas near the coffin.
My Mum looks 20years younger because all the stress and worry she self loaded has just dropped off with her death, she is free to live with no fear and her return to spirit would of been a joyfull occasion.
The family are all gathering and the funeral will be on Friday at 1.30pm.
It is a sad time but a realease as well because Mum doesnt have to suffer for breath any more or think she is a burden on everyone.
We were all sitting by her bedside before she died and she opened her eyes wide and was looking skyward... well the twilight zone theme music was playing in my head and i asked her What can you see mum, thinking i would hear things like Grandma or the light etc.....well she gave me one of them mother looks and said the roof.

I too am sorry for your loss but I know by reading all your posts, that there is a lot of your mother in you and so she shall live on in spirit...I love you and I am sorry you have to go through this but I know you will do so with the grace & dignity that you have and your mother will be looking down, smiling and grateful for such a beautiful son she has raised...

You know the grief process will be long and complicated and take you to many places emotionally.
Just rest your self in God's hands and give thanks for the times you had with your mum. With the miracle that allowed her to see you get sober and put your life back together. That you were able to be there wholly for her as a sober and responsible person when she needed you through her illness.
You have family around you to share in the tragedy and absurb comedy that is grief and loss.

What a beautifully written post Zac, I reckon you have done your Mom proud there. She must be enjoying the freedom of being without the physical body now. I wish her much joy in her journey onward. And I wish you and all your family who are left here, the strength and courage to live, and love your lives always in remembrance of your mother.

Dear Zac, I'm very sorry to hear of your families loss. It hurts alot when we lose a loved one. I wished we could all be spared the pain. I'm happy you know that your Mom's spirit is now free with no pain full of peace and joy. Another beautiful Light shining in the sky! Knowing that God will comfort you and your family during your times of sorrow.
