Hi there this is my 1st post so please bare with me, I've been on 65mls of Methadone for around between 9 to 10yrs I've never went above 65 & for about 4yrs I was on 40mls. I'm 37yrs old & I do not want to be on this anymore I certainly do not want to still be a slave to the chemist at the age of 40. All I want to know is, is there anyone out there who is experiencing what I am ready to embark on ? I want to know how difficult it really is or is the old saying true that it's all in your head or at least a good part of it is ?
I was on 70mls for years and started to reduce I got to 30mls and they suggested that I go on Suboxone. When I switched from 30mls to suboxone I was dreading it but I was shocked how good I was it seemed that I've been sleepy for all those years on methadone. I went up to 8mls of suboxone and I felt excellent for the first time in years, but my partner decided to just stay on the meth and reduce from there, he got down to 10mls and started feeling worse and worse when he did stop taking methadone he stayed in for 4 weeks with the sweats and no sleeping bt at the end he was eventually ok but it takes a long time to get out of the body so if you want to go for the suboxone or subotex first I would go for it then reduce from that unless you got excellent support go for it what ever is easy for you. I hope this was helpful.
Karma37,
I am glad methadone helped you and if you think it is time to detox make sure to talk to your clinic staff and do it very slow.
At first it shouldn't be all that uncomfortable but as you get down lower it may be uncomfortable. Just take it slow and you can do it.

once you get below 30 or so,,prepare for the worst. The aches and pains are brutal. Your stomach will being doing flop=flops- -There are many physical issues depending on your weight, overall health, - there aint no easy way out.
Yeah, you could try all the over the counter stuff that is suppossed to help...but dont count on it.
Dont throw your $$away when you find these potions thaT are on the internet!-
You really have to want to be clean more than you ever wanted anything in your life!!
I went thru absolute hell- - Was on 100-120mg for over 25 yrs- - I thought I wanted to be done with this stuff. I met a new girl, I moved to a new state, I started a new life- - -but just when I thought I could deal with the physical horrors , the psychological part comes in..
Dont forget for the last so many yrs, this is the life you,ve led. This is the life you know. Even before the klinic , the life was heroin. So its really more than the 10 or so yrs your trying to kick..
.
>>>The mental part is very, very hard.
Just knowing .when you get down to 10 mg or even off- -its in your mind that it only will take 10 or 20 bucks to make all the pain go away. Even when you get off....staying away and off of methadone or the street becomes a struggle. At least ,speaking for myself it did. Even though I did all the right things...it was the only life I really knew.
Meetings, and therapy could help. They helped me for awhile* *but at the end of the day,its all up to you....You really have to want a new life... and really cant step back for a frigging second...
