I sure hope we didn't scare you away. We share our information and what we have done, but everyone's circumstances are different. We're not here to judge you or your actions...just to give support. Hope you're doing okay.

Hi All, I am sorry I havent been back on this wonderful site but you know how things are! Darren asked me for my help and wanted me to go to see our doctor with him. That didnt get us very far. She said she would refer him for an assessment with a drugs councellor. I had already been in touch with them before hand. Our doctor wouldnt give Darren any kind of medication to help him through, and told us he would have to wait for his assessment. Well, that was last Thursday. He had his assessment and was told there is a waiting list for him to be alocated a drugs councellor. In the meantime he should try to cut down on what he is taking altogether. We came out of there very downhearted. All we are supposed to do now is WAIT. In the meantime Darren is feeling very low and quite ill. He thinks no-one cares but I DO!!!!! I just don't know what to do next to help him. I have even been on the "Talk to Frank" drugs helpline. Do you think that if I took him to hospital to casualty they would have to help him or would they turn us away? He looks so sad and I feel for him. And YES I am still confused!!!!!!!!!!!
CM,
It's not like you would be taking him there(the hospital) for a hang nail, we are talking something much more serious. Causal is not the approach if you are trying to get him admitted. Look at it like an audition for a MAJOR movie role and let them see just how desparate you are to see your son get help. It is easy for them to tell you to wait but when you are on life's clock there are times were you have to play catch up! Darren I am certain plays the role of an addict very well so he above all we be the key to showing them he needs help and if he does he will say and do what it takes to make them see his plight. The best to you both always!

Dear Confused Mom,
I'm certainly no expert, but I offer what little knowledge I have.
I placed 2 websites for free or low cost rehab on the other thread...Heroin Addicted Son. Also, for a short time my son was put on a very low dose of suboxone to help him come off the heroin. If they are serious about coming off, it can be an option. Of course, many come off without having to go on suboxone. Like I said...I'm no expert...just sharing what I know.
Please keep in touch! I prayed for you both at church today.
Love,
Susan
