Can anyone tell me if pill counting is a major part of the addiction because I find myself counting my pills all the time. Is this sick or what?

I always counted from about 6 months to a year and then on and each time I got a refill I'd count it to make sure all were there. I swear I could just look at the bottle and know how much were there.
There's a paranoia that goes with addiction IMHO...I am speaking for myself however I suspect that many addicts have done the counting thing.

oh boy.....the counting. I am not gonna miss that..lol. I counted every day, sometimes twice a day, just to "make sure" all was ok, that no one took any, or I did not lose any, or that the pharmacy did not rip me off. Its sick I know.

I think just about 95% of people on this board have counted thier pills at one time or another. Heck most of addicts probably count them everyday or once a week. It is a normal part of the addiction cycle. I know I used to do it. Once you get clean you will feel a sense of FREEDOM... No more pills, No more looking at the calander for your next appt.. You won't have to worry about running out early or taking vacations and losing your medication. It is so nice not to be controled by a little tiny pill..
I can't wait until you feel your old self again.. That is the best feeling is that you can actually feel again. While taking pain pills I was always so numb. I didn't have many emotions at all. Wait and see, I have faith in you. You will and can live without those pills. Hang in there... Your doing great. Rae

I counted my pills all the time. I would count them then close the bottle then count them 10 mins later. After every one I ate I recounted .I wonder why we do that ? I felt good when the bottle was full and I had to bump them out to count. When I could look into the bottle and count them w/o bumping I would get worried . I dont know what that is all about though .

I hate that feeling of knowing you are getting low on pills. Like you I always feel better when the bottle is full, but start freaking out when it gets down to half full. I'm just sick of feeling this way.

Yep,counted them countless times,lol...maybe ocd goes hand in hand with the addiction? I always felt better when the bottle was full too,when it started getting low,i would count and see how long they would last,make sure i ordered in plenty of time to not run completely out ...god forbid!!! It is such a sense of freedom to be done with that!~KIM
