Hi everyone
Just thought I'd share this. The last 4 days I have noticed that my cravings and obssessive thoughts over drinking have completely gone.
I don't get that late afternoon urge and I don't think about drinking during the day like I used to. Its just GONE.
Weird.
I feel so much calmer without my head running all the time. And its easier to concentrate and do other things.
Up until just recently though I was sort of "missing" my drinking - kind of hard to describe/explain the feeling. Like I was missing out on something, depriving myself of something I wanted I guess. But that feeling is gone now.
Its not such a daily battle now where you are fighting yourself all the time.
I love how bright and clear my eyes feel, I feel like a whole new me is shining out on the world with a new appreciation of everything. Its certainly been worth the struggle to get to this point.
I never want to go back to the person I was, enslaved to alcohol, barely making it through each day, living in a fog and haze of drinking and hang-over and anger and resentment. And because of that I never want to take my sobriety for granted.
Anyway - just wanted to share.
Idgie.
Idgie, I'm so happy for you...my Sponsor noticed in me what you are describing before I really realized it myself...she said "the lights have gone on in your eyes"...which I didn't really get at the time, but do now...again, so happy for you to be free of that bondage, my friend there is nothing better is there? Not until I truly experienced this could I even imagine or comprehend that this change could take place in me....oh, btw, the lights are coming on in my Sponsee's eyes too! We are all miracles!
hey VWGirl - great news about your sponsee I hope she can hold fast and make it through the darkness - the rewards are fantastic on the other side.
Edited to say: I too never believed I could feel like this.

Hey Idgie you are replacing your old habits with new ones a good example of this is to change where you put things in the kitchen and see how many times you go back to where they used to be, You now have options and a clear head so start saving up a little of the gratitude you give away for those days when you need a bit more oooommmph.
Sit somewhere quiet and thank your quides as they are doing backfliips for joy that the fog is clearing, good on ya Idgie.
Light and love Zac

Hi Zac
yes I often wonder how much of the addiction is the addiction of habit. Which of course is SOO ingrained. When you are used to doing something at a certain time each day for about 15 years it does take a while to break that habit I guess. I mean to mentally break it so that you're not thinking about it at that time etc etc.
I'm babbling now.
