WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT CRAVINGS WHEN THEY ARE OUT OF OUR MENTAL CONTROL WHEN YOU ARE EARLY IN RECOVERY????????????
The thing is it is all mental, we have a disease of the mind, cunning, baffaling and owww sooo powerful. Please give me more onfo on your cravings.
I'm coming back to recovery from a long terrible nightmare I've been living in for the past three years. I came into Program in 1986 and got clean for many years, needless to say is I neglected my recovery and fell in love with pain pills. I've been trying desparetly to get clean again but I seem to go as far as a week or more and then I use. I'm finding that I fall to the mercy of my cravings. It's a moment that my mind gets triggered by something & then I go into that sick mental masterbation thinking. I pray, for the compulsion & obsession to be removed, I think of calling someone but never end up doing it til after it's too late. I know most of the tools but I can't seem to be rid of this demon that crawls in head and begins to feed. Is there ANYTHING in the world I can do when this moment arrives?
have you tried not entertaing the though, you cant think of 2 things at 1 time, so try and think of something else besides the pills. just a thought, good luck.
KAT - It sounds simple and stupid but try going for a brisk walk when you get cravings. It is an excellent way to get rid of anxiety and it will clear your head. I am to the point now where even taking a vitamin pill almost makes me want to hurl. I couldn't even imagine taking an oxy, perc, or xanax after the past 12 days of misery I have been through.
You have come too far to give in to neighbors or trucks with drugs on them. Take care of yourself and kids. You are doing fine.

Hi Katt;
A couple of suggestions. Do you have program friends and/or a sponsor you can call, or a meeting you can get too?
Second, for the physical cravings my psych has me on naltrexone. It seems to help.
Good luck;
Jim

I would recommend going to a meeting. I attended my first NA meeting yesterday and it was awesome for me to see the support that goes on. Cravings are hard and when you face them alone you are making it harder on yourself by facing them without any support. There are people that have been through this, that have experience with this pain, they can help. Give it a chance and see what happens, good luck
