Daughter Detoxing

Can anyone help. I have been posting messages updating on my daughter detoxing from herion. This is her 9th day and she is doubled up with the pain in her stomach and back, the sickness is also back with a vengence.

She feels like she can't go on. Can anyone offer any advice please?
Desparate,
The typical withdrawl period(cold turkey without any help from other drugs)usually last between 3 to 5 days but everybodies body is different. If she is taking other drugs on top of this then she could be drawing the detox out longer. The mind is a powerful tool and her's maybe playing tricks on her. I used to think that herion addiction was only a physical thing but it to is mental as well. I hope with my all that she weather's this storm and give herself a chance. I thought in the begining that the pain would never end but all I could see was that I wanted to be free and was willing to do what it took to get there. I would take her to the ER if it gets worse.

PS......My mother(may she rest in peace)passed away last year and my love for her is what brought me to this sight. The exists no greater being than a mother. You angels bare so much on your wings yet you continue to soar! I just wanted to take this time to say thank you for being the force that you are! All the best to you and your daughter!

Hey, the stomach pain is common. Heroin tends to constipate you, and even if it doesn't it will give you about a good week of the most horrific diahrea one has ever experienced, the body is trying to detoxify itself from the drug while craving it at the same time. Depending on how much heroin she used, the legnth of the physical withdrawl can be longer or shorter, and Darin is right, your daughters mind is going to screw with her. If she is still taking alot of benzos, her best bet it to try to lay off of those. It seems like an eternity, but it will pass. It's been 9 days so unfortunatley it is too late for her to get any kind of methadone or bup, but if she feels like her will is cracking, there is naltraxone, it is an opiate antagonist. A friend of mine used it to kick his heroin habit, it supposedly makes the user very ill if they try to use heroin while on it..
Oh mom she's almost through the thick of it. I was thinking about her. Agreed about the mental anguish. The physical things she is going through are very real, but we have our minds to constantly be pushing us to just one more little bit of dope just to ease that pain.

You're doing great, and just keep talking to her like you are. I know you aren't there distance wise, but listening is the best thing in the world. Our mom's are so wonderful, and again you are proving that. Keep telling her to just hang in there. Hang on. The back pain is horrendous though, but using is not going to do anything, but hurt her.

Got you in my prayers, DM. We have all been through this, and she wants this so bad which is a great step.
she should be through the worst of it.i was using large ammounts for about four years or more when i detoxed.she chose the right way,buy detoxing on her own she has given herself a valuable lesson she wont forget! she will probably have leg cramps and body aches for up to a month but when she is done and feeling normal she probably will never want to do this again!

my prayers are with you.
I can't thank you enough for posting your messages, it really really helps. To give you abit of background, my daughter has been smoking herion for about seven years. Almost two years ago she went on a methadone programme but stopped taking the methadone and continued using herion. She has also suffered from IBS for about 20 years. She has never really tried to stop using until now. She desparately wants to be free from all opiates. She started the detox programme 9 days ago. She was prescribed Lofexidine and Librium. She managed to take this for four days but her condition was worsening. She was in a lot of pain and really sick. I called the GP out twice and she was given an anti sickness injection and then antibiotics as they thought maybe she may have a urine infection which was causing the pain. She ended up being admitted to hospital on the 5th day as she was getting worse. She was kept in the hospital for 24 hours. Her urine was clear (no infection) but her blood pressure and heart rate was very low. The Lofexidine was stopped and the only medication she has been on since in Librium. Yesterday, she started picking up a wee bit and managed to eat something. She has not been sleeping and now the pain and sickness have come back with a vengence. She is, at this moment, in a hot bath, this helps ease the pain for a short time. She describes the pain as if her intestines were all knotted.

Thanks for the message praising me as a mother, but honestly, my son, who is also going through withdrawal has stayed straight for the whole 9 days and has nursed my daughter day and night, trying to protect me from the horrors of it. I don't know where he has suddenly got this inner strength from but he has been absolutely wonderful and I thank God for this.

I honestly can't bear to think how my precious two children started this nightmare and I pray to God we are nearing the end of this nightmare.

Thank you all for your wonderful posts, it's so comforting to speak with you, yet so horribly sad you are all suffering too. Thanks again for answering my messages.
