I read the book 'A beautiful boy' many years ago. my daughter read Tweeked. she said it was not a deterrant, but a motivator.....

I have not read the recent books. probably wont see the movie - have already lived it - lol
NTF,
Ive always wanted to read the book (Beautiful Boy) and after watching the video you posted now I know I will. I think I can emotionally handle the dad's book but don t think I can handle the sons right now. Has anyone read them and what did you think?
I read 'a beautiful boy' many yrs ago when my daughter was going thru addiction. It was good from a parents view. On par with what we have all been through. I saw 'tweeked' in her room and was going to read it, and then it disappeared. At this point, I have no interest in reading it. They each have written another book since then. I have not read them. I don't think I'd like to see the movie. we've lived thru it, don't need to see it.
I agree, I read Beautiful Boy. It was gut-wrenching...and now I get to live it. I think the movie could open some eyes, maybe show those who may sit in judgement that it is not bad parenting, lack of love, lack of moral upbringing, etc etc that causes addiction. And treatment does not always guarantee a hollywood ending wrapped in a bow. Personally I find myself pretty checked out as far as my son's recovery goes right now.....or I should say his lack of recovery. I spent several years beating myself up for not being "warrior mom".... the one who will be able to look back and say, I never gave up. I give up...i broke up with my son's addiction....which until he seeks recovery, is the same as giving up on him. It gets easier every day, with the help of this forum, meetings, counseling. Peace, Libby
