Ijust wanted to thank everyone for all the support I have been given and all the prayers that have been said for me. I know I still have a ways to gobut being off hydro for six days have cleared my mine.Going cold turkey was the best way for me but no matter how you achieve your goal just do it. Mind over matter is a big thing. I did have to take a a very small piece of xanax last night o sleep but i finally slept 6.30 hours and feel much better today. I just wanted people to know how much I appreciate all their kind words but we all need to understand that if we want to make a change in our lives we first have to convince our heart and mind and then go for it. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

I'm glad to hear there is a light at the end of the tunnel!! I'm on day 2-1/2; I have reservations about going completely cold turkey. I haven't slept in almost 3 days and feel like s***. I wrote last night at 1:30 a.m. and feel so horrible. Did you sneeze a lot? I'm shivering like crazy and can't get warm. I take bath after bath and just got out of the shower, but to no avail. I have a blanket wrapped around me like a baby!!! It's crazy!! How much longer is this? I want to sleep sooooooooo bad, but I can't!!!! I see the doctor this morning and am going to tell him that I have become physically dependant on the hydros and I haven't slept in almost 3 days. My eyesight is a little blurry; probably from no sleep!! Is this what you experienced, too? Another member said that Benadryl or a walk may help or some Sleepy Time tea......did you try anything? Let me know, and thanks a lot for your words!!!
Way to go Claudia! Day 3 was the toughest day for me, so stay strong. Stay in the moment and know that soon it will get better! Yes, lack of sleep is a very common se of wd's from these pills. It's good you are going to see your doctor - tell her/him everything. You are not alone! Also consider an NA/AA meeting(s) for support.
Take care and God bless;

Claudia,
all these things are normal and the worst parts are almost over... however it could take up to a week to be completely gone... but 72 hour is usually it... benedryl is a good choice for sleep... but dont let the w/d suffering rent alot of space in your head... some people spend alot of time saying to themself ' I am sooo sick .... i cant do this...' over and over.. they phsych them self out... I never did that,... first I thought I deserved the misery .. (sick I know but... ) but i kept saying this is just going to last a little while... I am strong ... I can handle it... ' I set a time line for one week and just waited it out... it wasnt the most pleasant thing ever but I got through...
as for your doc.... the most important thing is just saying the words to him.. it is important for you to tell him.... that is huge.... also burning your bridge .. if you are getting them from him.... congrats on this and pat your self on the back...
are you going to any NA meetings...?... if not I would strongly recommend them... get up get dressed and find one and go... you will find the most supportive people there and learn a wealth of info too...
Good luck and God Bless...
Teresa

TH,
Sounds like your on your way. Great going. I think we are so afraid of how we are going to feel, that we just continuie to use. Once you have broken the cycle, and you see that getting past the W/D's was something you can do, now you need to set yourself up for staying off the pills. Keep posting, make meetings, share your thoughts, dont let your mind play tricks on you--what is workign for me, is to remind myself daily, often-that I can be right back to using if I let my guard down.
Keep up the good work--you moving forward.

Dear Trying Hard, it was just wonderful to get online today and hear a sucess story!!Welcome to your new life of recovery! I remember the first morning I woke up and my first thought wasn't pills, I was so excited! It felt great to be able to go places and not worry about my stash. It all just felt so free. I'm so happy for you. Best of luck, much love, Kat
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. Sorry its taken me so long to get back but i've been gone all day and just feel a little tired. Other than that i feel fantastic. For those of you just starting do believe me it does get better. Our minds have all the control so please be patient and before you know it you'll be back as good as new. Just thank god that the w/ds do not last as many days, months or years that we took the medication, now wouldn't that be ugly? Anyway thank all of you again for all the inspirational wisdom and words of kindness. Take Care,
TH

Hi Claudia,
Yes, the sneezing drove me nuts! And I also couldn't get warm. I took so many hot showers the first 3 or 4 days, but then when I got out of the shower, I was shivering so bad, that I decided to stay out of the shower!
It sounds like, from the severity of your symptoms, you will go through another 24 hours or so of bad discomfort. On day 4 you should start to notice that the very bad feelings have gotten just a little bit better. Each day after that will bring less discomfort. Getting used to the new you though will take some time. But the flu like symtoms will start to disappear by day 4.
You're through the worst part. You can do this. Keep posting, keep talking. It helps alot.
God Bless,
Susan
