Look, I have been trying all kinds of searches for chat rooms for drug dependency. I keep coming up with message boards. I don't think they're a bad thing but would like to talk to someone in real time. I'm getting a bit scared and not ready to talk to my doc about it. Please if anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Yes, this is a desperate cry for help. Thank you.
Sue,
Drug Dependency due to pain medication can be a catch 22 situation. Bottom line is that opiates are addicting. Obviously, you feel at this point that you are addicted. First things first. This is a step. I know how hard it is to allow yourself to say I am powerless over the drugs that I take and I am sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. But, it is necessary to seek proper medical care. Your physician knows the side effects of dependecy and also facilities that can assist the weaning off process. Rehab is not a cure is a place of beginning to get off the drugs, be around people that understand what you are going through and after care program after detoxing. I believe in support groups, like NA, AA, etc., but again I have to stress the medical side of addiction. Withdrawl can cause alot of mental and physical pain. So, please do not try to wean yourself off the medications until you confide in your doctor.
If you have a family, I am sure they have noticed changes in your personality. Sometimes the family is in denial and they can justify why you have been so moody or tired. The truth of the matter is it is up to you.
There is no written law about the meeting rooms of (NA and AA). Sometimes it takes going to a support group meeting to give yourself another push towards getting off the drugs. There are meetings everywhere, call your local NA hotline and the people who volunteer their time are recovering addicts. Sometimes just talking to that person over the phone helps. They will inform you what you can do and where to go. PICK UP THE PHONE!!!
I hope this helps. I will pray for you. God grant us the serenity to except the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

I too have been searching for a chat room that is for recovering addicts. I haven't been able to find one either. I want to be able to talk to someone in real time as well. I have plenty of people in my support group, but I would like to talk to someone that has went through the same thing as what I am going through. I can pick up the phone and call anyone anytime, but I enjoy chatting on the web and would love to chat with others in recovery and see their point of view. I am going to keep searching, but if anyone finds a chat room for recovering addicts let me know and I will, of course, do the same. Maybe we should create our on chat room. I know that you can do that with AOL so do you all think that is what we should do? I wouldn't mind doing it myself, but I want to know that if I create a chat room that I won't be the only person in there. I want to know that others will join me. It just isn't much fun typing to yourself huh? I hope that we all find somehting soon. Everyone----keep up the hard work--one day at a time.
Hi Dana,
Have you tried any of the chat rooms others have recommended that are listed above your message? I have looked at one or two of these and they seem to be pretty good. Let us know if you find one that works well for you.
Thanks!

hi Sue, I suppose I should start by telling you a bit about myself, my name is Jennifer I am 22yrs old and for the last 6yrs I have been trying to fight my heroin addiction which has controlled most of my adult life. at the moment I am being prescribed methadone by my doctor which has helped stabalise me although I am not totally drug free I am in a better position now than I was last year. so even if your doctor cant help you he will know an agency or support group who can. This doesnt mean you have to attend groups like NA or AA and there is no such a thing as a registered addict anymore so no one will everfind out you have been to your doctors about this it is completeley confidential. As for a chatroom I myself have looked and never found anything but if you do or even need anyone to talk to about your problem please feel free to Email me on valerie.cairney@ntlworld.com Things will improve for you I know sometimes it feels as if you are fighting a losing battle but the s! ooner you get professional help the better as an addiction is a disease. goodluck, Jen
