Detox Aids

Argh !! I know I just read on here a day or two ago where someone posted a list of vitamins, OTC meds and such to help with detox, but for the life of me cant find it now.............any help anyone?
Hi, i had this post emailed to me as my boyfriend is tapering at the moment.

so from my email i have copied and pasted the post.....this is the first post...i havent pasted the replies..but if you want them i can paste them as well?

it was called "New List Of Otc Medications" and was in pain pills

hope this helps xx

I know some of you are interested in what to take while you are tapering or going Cold turkey. I would say 99 % of people in withdrawls use some kind of OTC medications to help ease their withdrawl symptoms. Here is a list that I created today. I took many other board member's suggestions along with my own and combined them.. If anyone else can think of some let's list them so people coming to the board can go buy if they need to or want to.

When I was tapering I was still having some withdrawl symptoms. So instead of taking another pill I would substitute it for something OTC and that seemed to work for me. PLEASE DO NOT take ALL of these together. Example, you wouldn't want to take benedryl and Comtrex at the same time but I guess that is common sense. Please talk to your doctor before taking any otc medications.. Especially if you have underlying medical conditions..

Comtrex Flu therapy-- This contains Tylenol & Chlorpheniramine..They have day and night time tablets.. The night time tablets have the antihistamine in it..This treats many flu symptoms such as body aches, headaches, sore throat, fever and chills..

Motrin- 800 mgs for body aches ( I took this during the day)

Midol- Moodiness & Cramps-This contains Tylenol, Caffeine & Pyrilamine

Benedryl~ 25 mgs for sleep ( I recommend taking this 7 days or more into your detox and only if you really cannot sleep.. Could cause hang over effect and can be addicting...

Multi-viatmins- Mega Mens & Womans Ultra Mega ( GNC Store)

B-12 Sublingual Lozenges- 1,000 mcg ( Woman only need 500 mcg So split it half).

Pottasium pills~ Restless legs ( Many foods listed below contain pottasium as well. I take the 90 mg pills everyday because I don't eat a lot of foods that have pottasium in them.

GABA- Induces relaxation and sleep

Kava Kava Tea- Is a herbal root, also called kava outside Hawaii, is billed as a natural treatment for anxiety & insomnia.

Hyland's Leg Cramps with Quinine is homeopathic relief of cramps and pains in lower back and legs. They have quick dissolving tablets

Immodium AD Tablets- Do not take more than 4 in a 24 hour period.. This one will be very helpful to you if you have diarrhea..

Other helpful tips!!

Drinking lots of water & Orange juice

Gatoraide is good for hydration only if you do not have diarrhea

Hot bathes & lavander Oil

Soups & eating small meals

Other foods that contain pottasium include: Broccoli, Squash, Green Beans, Cauliflower, Banana's, Apricots, Cantaloupe, Honeydew & Potatoes..

Exercise -- Even if that means walking outside and just getting out of the house. This will help..

*For anyone with a history of high blood pressure - BE CAREFUL and watch your blood pressure closely during withdrawals.. Discuss taking any and all OTC medications with your doctor first!! Even if you don't have a history of high blood pressure during withdrawl it may rise. It would be a good idea to talk to your doctor about Clonidine( Catapress Patches) before going cold turkey from any narcotic's. Most doctor's prescribe this during detox.

Good luck and remember there is light at the end of the tunnel. Take it One day at a time... Rae

She's not using, but her son has been worrying her. He recently had a friend OD. He wouldn't go to the funeral. He's been acting sneaky for awhile now.

Well, the other night she comes home from work and he's talking to her in a full nod. He was whacked and he told her he was drinking. My friend is a revovering heroin addict. She is not naive. Sje was so mad, and they argued, and he left. he moved out.

On one hand she can at least sleep more than an hour at a time because hse is constantly checking to see if he is breathing in his sleep. Shes really going through it. Man, and she's the nicest person on earth.
