Just wanting advice on how long it takes to feel better after 21 days clean from a 3 year addiction of Vicodin and Norco at 30 to 35 a day? Had four knee sugeries from a serious car accident and after that my world slowly spun out of control. My body and mind feel horrible as of today and have no energy to do anything. I stay close to home for now to control my cravings and urges. I have been attending NA Meetings, but just can't connect. Does anyone share in this vicious circle of chronic pain.
Thanks for listening...Janyce
I can tell you it will get better. After 5 years of OxyContin dependency I weaned off and got clean April 26,2010. It takes time & you will continue to feel better. Your brain takes time to re-adjust to living off opiates and it's a much better life. Others here can speak more on NA than I. I believe in it and have been. My story is known to most here and I just don't sign on a lot but life will get BETTER being clean and sober. Life has it's ups and downs and at least you will be able to feel them and deal with them instead of masking them with those opiates I call demons.
After getting clean and going through the acute withdrawal phase for about five days, I seemed to level off and had no energy and felt just lousy for about two months. I was beginning to wonder if this was going to be my new reality!
Then sometime after sixty days, I began to feel better. I would have good days and bad days but eventually, by ninety days clean, I definitely was much better.
Now, at eight months clean, it's just a bad memory and I feel great.
Hang in there. It does get better!

It does get better and you should be so proud of yourself for making it as long as you have. Keep doing what you're doing..hit as many meetings as you can and start connecting with people there. Find a sponsor, someone you can call when you can't get outside of your head. Be gentle with yourself..your body, mind and soul have been sick for a long time and it just doens't happen overnight, but as you heal, you will start to feel more energy.
Things that have helped most folks here are excersize, mediation and definetly meetings. If you can get yourself to start taking short walks, that really helps.
How are you dealing with the chronic pain now? Do you have family memebers who are aware of what you're going through?
