Saw Dr Phil episode this week. 28 yr old mental illness, possibly triggered by drug addiction.
Hi NY, How long was the 28 yr old on drugs for and what drugs did he use? Very sad!
HI - they didn't go thru too much of those details. Something like started in 2010 in college, marijuana to heroin.
I saw it also, and it was unbelievably sad. It hit home, also gave me hope. It gave me hope because we have adopted our grandchildren, and both parents exhibit serious mental health issues. Neither have family history of mental illness, but both have serious drug histories. I pray that their mental health problems are drug induced, and not something our adopted children will inherit.
My son has been diagnosed with Bi Polar and PSTD due to drug abuse. I bet if they scan his brain it would be as bad as a footballer getting hit in the NFL.
He has a wonderful Psychiatrist. He starts therapy soon to learn tools to help him stop his feening or craving. He is doing ok. Had a couple of mishaps and he guilts himself for it. He wants to quit he does, but I don't know if he is strong enough. Drugs have taking his life , his mental stability and his worthiness. He feels like a looser and is ashamed most times. We try constantly to tell him not to look back at what if, should if but go forward. He has a great partner also who believes in him and keeps him focus.
We need more mental health facilties that are free. We pay $125 a month because he can't afford insurance.
