Duragesic Patch Help Please

I am currantly on the patch, at 25 mcg. What I want to know is..is it addictive? and can some of you kind ppl share some of your stories with your experience with this patch? I haven"t been on it very long, and just want to know what I am getting into here. also, where is the best place to put it on your body? so that it doesn't buckle or come off with movement? thanks Ya"ll in advance.
Hi Mary, you're talking about a non narcotic patch, right? I use one too. I don't have one nearby to look at the name but if I'm not mistaken it's the same thing. As long as we're talking about the same thing you have nothing to worry about. It's not addictive. I find it very helpful for burning pain. It isn't the perfect answer for pain by no means but it sure beats nothing. Now if you're talking about a narcotic patch, that's a whole different ball game. Love, Kat
Hi Kat, hope you are well. I am not sure what it is.. havent been on it long..I will look it up, and get back to you..
Duragesic contains fentanyl. Fentanyl is a potent opiate and is highly addictive, tolerance builds rapidly.

So the answer is yes, Duragesic can be addictive.
Oh okay, thank you, I really wasn't sure. The patch I use a cousin gives me from time to time and it isn't a narcotic. I couldn't quite remember the name. I'll ask her the name of it tommorrow and post it on here. I have heard some negative things about the narcotic patch but it can be considered a positive option too. I know of one person who abused those patches considerably and had the worst w/d I have ever heard of. I won't go into details or anything but she used much more than prescribed and the dr suddenly cut her off. I also know of a person who used it for a short period of time during extreme pain and suffered no wd at all. I guess it really just depends on the person, the dosage and the amount of time using it. Love, Kat
thank you silent partner, kat..go too www.duragesic.com, then click on patient instructions. I found out alot of information there.I guess it is a narcotic. it is slow release though, so that is good. it definitly helps my back. thanks so much for the help .
My doctor gave me the fentanal patch and it was a hell of a withdrawl I stopped getting my period on it and i also had to take perks for the breakthrough pain. I told him never to give it to me again that was 7 months ago and i just got a period this month brutal stuff should only give that to terminaly ill people in my view
thabk you tracey..it's so hard to find something nowadays that works and doesn't have so many side affects..have a good day
have you tried lidoderm patches?
i was given them for my hand, has sevear nerve damage.they weren't bad.
does not stop all the pain but i was able to do more.
also used them on my back,i have back problems too.
they also gave these to my dad when he had lung cancer,to use on his back.
as said i doesn't stop all pain but helps...
just a lil info on something new..
good luck....dj
Mary, if you are on the durgesic patch, yes it is highly addictive. Do you have chronic pain, because that's what they ususally give it out too. I was on it one time and couldn't tolerate it, it just did a number on me, eyes rolling around and not being able to walk straight, of course they gave me percocet for breakthrough pain and I was taking that too, so I was getting a double whammy. I stopped the patch after about a week, but I have heard it is good for chronic pain patients since it gives you a little at a time in you blood stream so you have a constant amount. I have fibromyalgia so they were trying to find what worked best for me. I put them on my butt, but sometimes you need to put extra tape around it to keep it one, if you decide to stay on it.
Good morning. I take the patch for severe back pain that I have had for years. nothing else seems to work as well. it does not make me loopy at all..I walk normal, talk normal..etc. I take nothing for breakthrough..because I choose not to. thanks for all of your help..
That's great you take nothing for breakthrough. I think that's why I was so loopy. Of course, it was getting to be the high for me more than the pain!
for some reason, I dont get high off these. I solely use them for the pain..I just got off the phone with my pain dr. he was in the office, checking charts, and said it's time to upp the dose to 50 mcg. what do you guys think? should I do it? I value all of your opinions..thanks.
Is it not helping your pain? Is that why he is increasing the dosage? You wouldn't feel an high with a slow releasing med, but it did when I mixed it with the other. I do not recommend that especially since it's working for you.
My doc put me first on the 25 then the 50 then the75 and i still had to take the perks because my job is very physical told my doc i didnt want to rely on them because like i said i stopped getting my period and that scared me im still young something that effects you that seriously cant be good i think only termanal patients should be given that strong of a medicine and holy christ what a brutal withdrawl. if your not going to use them for the rest of your life stay very far away please
