good morning as we all know if our loved ones go into a recovery program with out a court mandated time they can sign themselves out. I have started a petition to have that revised I'm hoping to reach out to as many people as I can.

You can't force or legislate recovery. It has to be "desired".
I adhere to AA's responsibility declaration:
I am responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA always to be there. And for that I am responsible.
Good luck :

Florida has the Marchman Law and the Baker Act. It doesn't hold them long enough tho. A woman is trying to get the Jennifer Act passed in Florida, for long term rehab. I think the Jennifer Act should be everywhere. Studies have been done that addicts who are forced into recovery have about the same recovery rate as addicts that go willingly, as long as it's a longer recovery time. The mind needs time to be free from drugs and heal. 30 days doesn't do it. Especially with Heroin. I'm not against 12 step but the 12 steps aren't working for our young heroin addicts. These kids are on social media, everyone knows who uses heroin, who has relapsed, who is in rehab and who is in jail or going to meetings. There is nothing anonymous anymore. I think the 12 steps work great for some people and I'm so grateful that they do. But this heroin isn't the heroin from your grandpa's day, it's much purer and stronger and these kids don't have the work ethic or backbone your grandpa had when he went to AA for drinking to many hi-balls. It's a whole new world and kids are dying everyday. Something more than abstinence has to be done, something more than a week or two at rehab until insurance says no more, something more than suboxone that drs won't give you unless you show up everyday for half a** dr office rehab groups and risk loosing your job over and quit going to community college for. And if you relapse the drs cut you from the sub program, so you lie that you relapsed over the weekend and risk going deeper into the abyss of drug use instead of getting the help of getting back on the recovery track. We all know it's easier to get back on the recovery track if you do it immediately than if you wait til usage is too much and that drug is saying "no way, not gonna stop". MAT has to be accessible and reasonable for all.
