Hi everyone, thanks for your support. How is everyone doing? I don't know much about any of you and would be happy to hear your stories. Today is 30 days since I have been drunk. I did have that 3 glasses one night a couple weeks ago but not since and am fine without it. I had insomnia before and I would stay up and drink sometimes all night this summer after my kitty died. It was a vicious cycle. I have to embarassingly admit that I was so depressed I spent thousands on psychic lines talking about my cat! Thousands. That is clearly a tough one to admit. Another tough one to admit is staying up all night to the point of crying and than being so emotional that I would call someone at 7 am who was clearly sober and pour my heart out. That was embarassing I hs so much guilt from that. It goes on and on at how many emotional breakdowns I had.
Thank god that doesn't happen if I don't drink. I am a bit depressed right now though because I have been an insomniac throughout this process and it is at it worsed now! How long is this going to go on? I wasn't drinking every day but clearly it has something to do with it.
Any thoughts?
Jennifer
Hey Jennifer,
First of all, I am new to the board so I'd like to tell you I am Jill. I am so sorry about your cat. I have a golden retriever, Sadie and a cat, Foudini and they are my family so I completely understand the depth of your loss. I don't think I'd spend thousands to contact them on the "other side" but I think losing a pet that you are close to is like losing a child. I too suffer from insomnia and I would drink at night to fall asleep, have a blood sugar crash, wake up wide awake, have another drink to fall back to sleep to that becoming my cycle 24/7. It's hard enough to deal with loss, but especially so when you are exhausted. Start a bedtime routine. T.V., computer, etc...off by 11:00, read, listen to quiet music, some cereal and milk, warm bath. If you are not asleep after an hour, get up, do something quiet and try again in a half an hour. Nothing stimulating though. Eventually, you'll begin to sleep. Exercise during the day helps. Get a new kitten when you are ready and focus on starting over with a new friend. Do it soon while you are not sleeping because the new kitten will keep you awake for a few nights!
Good Luck and I hope this helps.
Jill

Hey Jennifer
Addiction is cunning, baffling and powerfull and it is having a go via your sleep or lack of it, what is your mind like during this sleepless period ?
Are you doing a lot of what if and worry thinking ? are you thinking negatively?
Or are you just sitting there watching the hours go by?
Try all the things Newme said and also start praying to your higher power.
The lack of sleep will pass and if you are having daytime naps stop them because untill you are sleeping at night they will only make the nights longer.
Keep up the good work Jen and acknowledge all the good work you have done.
Light and love zac

What worked for me is melatonin. I take 3 mg at bedtime and am falling asleep in half an hour. It is non addictive and non habit forming. Give it a try.

Thanks everyone, I do have a kitten that I got in July. She really helps. I know it was nuts with the psychics but I think it was more someone to talk to that was awake late at night! I wasn't reasoning the cost at the time or even paying attention. I was depressed and had a ton of wine in me. Bizarre.
I am doing good without the drink. Just so tired. Fell asleep at 8:30 a.m. or after. One second I am up and still awake and the next I am out like a light and can't hear the phone or anything!
Woke up 6 hours later exausted. I am going to have some blood taken to make sure everything is okay. If I can get the energy to get there. I am not thinking too much when I cant sleep except maybe that I can't sleep. It is like my body is fighting it more than my mind. I used to lie awake and think but not recently.
I think i will get some melatonin this weekend. I would go and get it now if I wasn't so tired. Being this tired is keeping me from work and meetings and working out.
J-why would your blood sugar crash? Diabetes? Drinking did not help me sleep it kept me awake and quite engaged in my head or the computer. I really was looking forward to sleeping better after this long sober. I guess I have to be patient and really push myself.
HOw is everyone this weekend?
Thanks again,
Jennifer
