Favorite Christmas Songs???

So this is Xmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Xmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Xmas
And a happy new year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Xmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

A very merry Xmas
And a happy new year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Xmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Xmas
And a happy new year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it
War is over now

My one is the one with Shane Mcgowan&Kirsty Mcawl...Merry Christmas New York ..i think is the name...its 6.20am here so the heads a bit fuzzy...Take care all.....Davey
Does anybody know?

There was an old Christmas ditty by the 'Who'...when they were still on vinyl....had rather a cynical satirical air about it....rather eerie and foreboding in nature....not the type of song that Walmart would put on its top ten list....i often wonder how many shoppers get to the point of 'losing it' ...with the potential of 'opening fire' in a crowded department store if they hear one more Crapmas song as they stand on the long check out lines waited to be rung...or hung up..

but i digress...anybody know the song or the album it was on?

Hi, Jack

I actually have several favorites for different reasons.....

My favorite religious one is Away in a Manager

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle til morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,
And take us to heaven, to live with Thee there.

My favorite children's one is Rudolfe the Red Nosed Reindeer or You Better Watch Out (but we change the words to behaviors we want to see change instead of "you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout" because I don't like to tell anyone they shouldn't cry. We have used, "you better not push, you better not hit, you better not shout I'm telling you why." lol

My favorite ones to sing because they're easy for me are Where Are You Christmas and Merry Christmas, Darling.

Interesting question, Jack. I never knew all the words to the one you like. I like that one as well after finding out the lyrics. :)

Love,
Susan

Hello...it finally came to me...'Fairytale of New York".....also that ol classic Silent Night.....amazing in 1916 in the WW1 trenches..the Germans&British sang this to each other over no mans land..and had a kickabout with a football..dunno what the score was...but unfortunatly the butchers bill was very high.......Take care all..........Davey
I also like Fairy Tale of New York. I like a lot of Pogues stuff, especially the Irish Rover. It always makes me laugh, envisaging a fantastic amount of dogs being transported in the hold of the Irish Rover! And I like Kirstie McColl, particularly her cover of New England. Hey, only the good die young...

I'm not feeling at all Christmassy this year. No decorations, no plans. I've got a big lump of venison in the freezer, but I've never eaten it before, and have no idea how to cook it. My attempt at Xmas irony, eating Rudolph on Xmas day... I don't even know where I'll be living by Xmas. Everything is turned on its head this year, but next year I'll have a proper Xmas. I used to love Xmas when I was with my ex, coz his mum did a fantastic Xmas, with a gorgeous dinner, port and stilton, presents round the table, pulling crackers, telling the stupid jokes, wearing the paper hats, and brandy and charades after. Just how Xmas should be and never was when I was growing up. My man is a total Bah-humbug man, and doesn't believe in Xmas, whereas I like to go bonkers, with all the lights, a real tree, too many decorations and lots of Baileys on ice! And mince pies! Next year I'll show him how it's done and it'll be great...

Hi there K, we always make up, but a lot of the time it seems to me like I just do it to keep the peace. And it's a peace that is easily shattered. He's gone to bed in a sulk now coz he went out before I was up and didn't come home till about 5 tonight, having had a session drinking with his buddies. I'm learning... he rang me to tell me that he'd be home in about half an hour, which meant about an hour, so I had time to cook dinner and see to the dog before he got home. Came home, expecting me to be in a mood with him, which I wasn't, so he was quite friendly. Ate his dinner and then started having digs at me, about me being fat, which I'm not, I'm merely carrying his child, but I am big because I'm 7 months pregnant. So I asked him why he was being nasty, and he said he wasn't, he was just stating the truth. I told him just because it's true it doesn't mean it's OK to pick on me about it, and said that he's cruel and vindictive, but I don't rub it in all the time, just because it's true, as that's unkind, and I'm not an unkind person. I couldn't help myself. So he got in a strop, and stormed off upstairs. It doesn't even register with me any more, he does it so often.

Should be getting the keys to my new house next week. And that's where I'm going...

You know, I used to like it when I was at Junior school, and we'd sing Xmas hymns in assembly, but supply our own alternative lyrics. I can't listen to We Three Kings, without the old "One in a taxi, one in a car, one on a scooter, beeping his hooter, following yonder star..." going through my head, or "Whilst shepherds washed their socks by night, all seated round the tub, a bottle of Fairy liquid came down, and they began to scrub..." It was the only time during the year that anybody actually bothered singing with any enthusiasm!

And Jack, you reminded me for a moment of my dad. I've only ever seen him cry three times. Once when my nan, on my mums side died, and again at his own fathers funeral, and, the very first time? Watching ET on pirate video when I was about 8!!!! I embarress myself all the time by crying at ridiculous things. I'm terrible for it now - I can't even look at the RSPCA or Dogs Trust adverts on TV, or those ads with those poor dancing bears in Eastern Europe. When I was at school, they made us watch Tarka the Otter in English Lit, and I bawled my eyes out in front of the whole class!
Diff..hope all is well ...just wanted to say thanks for the laugh i got out of "we three kings'....the cheeky version.
All the best.............Davey
I'm remembering when I was about 17 or 18, I was going out with this lad whose mum sang in a choir. At Xmas, she was taking part in a televised carol concert at Winchester Cathedral, and we got roped into helping out. Our job was to "work the door" (LOL) at the cathedral, taking the admission fees. We were so naughty. For every that went to the Cathedral funds, another one went to the "Xmas beer fund...". And then we stood at the back when the concert started, belting out the alternative versions of all the carols. We didn't care - we were Catholics!!!! Do ya think I'll burn in Hell now?

Diff xxxx
Cant we Catholics get some kind of exemption from the "burning in Hell " thing ?
