hi Gina & Cathrine, thanks for the reply, i have checked out the sites you both posted and they are very helpful....yes im from Australia and no script is required for lower levels of codine meds which makes using very easy...ive been around addiction all my life and have a sober brother in a.a and have also been in N.A myself and done numerous rehabs...following you advise i am going to make an appointment to see my doctor who is aware of my past history with drugs. its time to get honest with him and get some support thats close to home.
having had a taste of being clean several times before i am desperate for it again. i have small children and a wonderful man, and just want to get beyond this...its the withdrawal that i fear more than anything else. the anxiety is dreadful to deal with and i feel so guilty about being unwell for my kids....this is something i will have to do at home as i cant just up and run into rehab, although i would if i could....ill keep you posted as to how its going...thank you so much for listening and replying....its great to be able to talk to others who understand.
talk to you soon.

Hello again,
I am so glad you came back. Talking to your doctor is a wonderful idea. When a doctor is there to help it makes detox much less spooky. There are people from Oz that come here that are taking suboxone. That's why I wanted you to read about it and talk to you doctor about it. Any plan you decide to do is a good one.
Keep comming back and posting about your progress. We codeine addicts must stick together. lol

Hello Anne,
Welcome to the board and congratulations on deciding to take back your life. We fear withdrawal more then death, don't we? But once we're in it, it isn't as bad as we thought. It's terrible, I know, but we survive.I think we make it much worse with our dread. Once it's over is where its gets tough. That's when we need help the most. All the best and keep posting. Talk to your Dr. and please take care.

Anne,
Getting support from your doctor is a great first step. I hope he can help you. Are you going to start NA meetings again?
I agree with you. I found the anxiety to be harder to cope with than the physical withdrawal. It was so hard not to reach for a substitute drug or call my doctor for a tranquilizer to get through the frequently panic attacks. I smoked like a forest fire for the first two or three months that I was clean.
If you go to the link at the top of this page, "Holistic Approaches," you will find information about yoga, meditation, nutrition that might help at this time. I found that cutting out caffeine really made a difference in the number and severity of my anxiety attacks. Breathing exercises saved my butt on numerous occasions.
Let me know if I can help in any way.
