I WAS SCARED OF "SUB" BECAUSE I DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT AND I HAVE HEARD THAT IT IS SIMILAR TO METHADONE AND IVE HEARD THE HORROR STORIES OF COMING OFF METHADONE. IM SCARED OF TRADING 1 ADDICTION FOR ANOTHER. IM REALLY WEAK RIGHT NOW AND IM TRYING TO USE "AFTER THE HOLIDAYS" AS MY EXCUSE. I HAVE GOOD DAYS AND BAD DAYS AND ALL I KNOW IS THAT I AM READY FOR THIS NIGHTMARE TO BE OVER. I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN IN ALABAMA AND DONT KNOW EXACTLY HOW TO GO ABOUT FINDING A SUB DOC. I DO GO TO A PAIN CLINIC AND IVE HEARD THEM TALK OF METHADONE AS A RECOVERY FROM OPIATES BUT NEVER THE SUB. I HAVE SO MANY GOALS AND WANT TO BE OFF THIS S*IT AND IN RECOVERY BY SPRING. I HAVE LOST SO MUCH WEIGHT AND FEEL LIKE A CLOUDY NIGHTMARE. I DID COME OFF ONCE B4 BUT THAT WAS ONLY ABOUT 2 MONTHS AFTER USING AND IT WAS ONLY THE PILLS. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT HOW TO COME OFF THE 25 MG FENTENYL PATCHES.ALL I KNOW IS IF I TRY NOT TO PUT ON A PATCH I FEEL UNBELIEVABLE SICKNESS. MORE THAN THE PILLS EVER CAUSED.I HAVE 4 BABIES.I HAVE TO BE ABLE TO TAKE CARE OF THEM WITH A CLEAR MIND. IVE BEEN USING FOR 1 YR AND 4 MONTHS.NOT ILLEAGALLY......ALL PRESCRIBED.I HAVE HAD TO "GET MY HANDS ON SOME BEFORE WHEN I RAN OUT.BUT BETWEEN 2 DOCS THAT KNOW IM SEEING EACH OTHER THEY SEEM TO GIVE ME ANYTHING I ASK FOR. PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME ON SUB. IM WILLING TO TRY JUST ABOUT ANY THING EXCEPT METHADONE.I DO PLAN ON GETTING INTO NA..BUT DOESNT THAT COME AFTER THE DETOXING..SORRY FOR BEING CLULESS. Oh God, I was on the 25 Fentnyl Patch too.......Uuuuuggghhhhhh.....got them from a small town in Alabama too....
Okay, I would NOT do the methadone program but I would try the Sub if you just think that you can't go cold turkey. I will post the Sub Doctor Locator for you in this post. If you need anymore help, let us know.

Go to the link above and click on your state - it will bring up a list of all the Dr's that have taken the course & are certified to prescribe Sub.
(Not all Dr's can Rx Sub for opiate detox -- only those that take a 8 hour course and get the special certification waiver)
Sub is SOOOOOO much better AND easier to come off of than methadone!!
Plus Sub does not make you high, you can function normal while taking it, and you can take it for a short detox and then taper off without near the w/d pain of other opiates - ESPECIALLY Fentanyl !! (Fentanyl = Duragesic patch)
I called a bunch of Dr's on the list before I found the one I go to.
You should probably start calling now cause many will have a waiting list (Each Sub Dr has a max of 30 patients that they can Rx Sub to at any one time) Get on that waiting list right away!!
I have a freind that works at a detox facility here in Florida and she says that this time of year & early January are the busiest months of the whole year -- lots of addicts trying to get clean around the holidays and right after New Year.

Kass, the others have given you a lot of good information of the Sub. I am glad to see you are not wanting to go the Methadone route. For me it was just substituting one for another and I abused that as well and it was h$ll coming off. As far as NA goes-The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop using. If you have the desire, then you qualify. You don't have to be clean to attend. Some meetings will announce that if you have used today, please sit and listen. If you go to a meeting, try to get there a little early or plan on staying later and take a list of questions you may have. There should be someone there that will help you. Good Luck. Dawn

im sorry i didnt answer your last post, i watched though, knew others with experience with that would come...Somewhere yesterday a newcomer shared that she so regrets going the methadone route..her withdrawals were twice as bad..will try and look for that one and bump it up for you.

Welcome to the Board. I was also on Fentanyl. Very difficult. If you are seeing your Dr. and doing a supervised taper, there is a 12.5mcg Fentanyl Patch to taper too. I am by all means NOT encouraging use. But if you are doing a medical supervised taper it is available, many Dr's just jump to the 25mcg patch. I would suggest Suboxene also.
