Ok, I just found a doc who charges $300 for first visit, then $150 for each visit after (approximately 10 days-2 weeks in between visits). No waiting list. The fist visit is a consultation and intake. It's all outpatient. It's not covered by insurance. The nurse told me he would write me a script on the first visit and that they are also using implants (under the skin, like the old birth control implants they were using a few years back). They said I don't have to be in withdrawal to start.
My questions are: What should I expect at the first visit/intake? I want to be completely honest about the amount of my usage. I see a lot on this board about how the different dosages affect people in different ways...what is the average starting dose and does it go up or down?
What else should I ask? I want to be an educated patient and to say I'm excited about this would be a huge understatement. My biggest problem all along with quitting has been the depression that follows - will he be able to write me for an antidepressant as well?
Thanks to anyone who answers and provides support. This could be the beginning of a whole new life for me and my family.
Yes, they should be able to write a script for antidepressants. What on earth are they implanting? I never heard of that one. Is it sub? Definitely sounds like you should go for it. I also can't understand why you don't have to be at least partially in w/d. Must be something new? Please explain.
Hi Kl.....
Be honest about everything with the sub docor.......how much, how long...don't leave anything out it helps to gauge where you might have to start out. Make sure the doctor pushes outside support along with thier program......You should preferrably be dosed in the office when you first start.....there is a fine line with dosing.....to little and to much feel like the same thing...sh*t.....but the right dose will have you feeling normal. It might take a few days to get normal, be patient. Just ask and ask and if you don't understand ask again.....Then when you start you can come here and those on it could calm any fears or concerns that the doctor had you confused about.....
The implant must be naltrexone....but you shouldn't be getting that until after you are done with sub. It that how it was explained.....
Good Luck to you,
Love,
TIna

Kl , Just so you know , there is a sub Dr. in Bourne .His name is Alfredo Gonzalez . Number is 508-743-0314 .He charges only 125.00 for the first visit .He is located just on the Cape side of the Bourne Bridge . He does test you for all drugs in you're system . My personal experience has been that sub is by no means a magic bullet . The DRS. that are prescribing this stuff seem to know little about WDS.I wish I had educated myself more about this drug before I went on it .I have been off it for the better part of three weeks and still am having some very real Wds symptoms . I really wish I had done my homework before I went on it .It seems that the best way to get clean is to stay on it for the shortest amount of time possible and then to taper very slowly . Every case is different .I just think it is important to really understand how this stuff works .
thanks for your replies. My appointment is this afternoon at 6 pm. They really gave me very little information over the phone so I'm a little anxious about what will happen...but I'll ask lots of questions and do as much reading on this board between now and my visit.
I can hack the WDs (although I'd rather not) but it's the depression that sets in that does me in and what I really don't want to deal with at all. I hope this doc is knowledgeable and sympathetic.
I'll let you know tomorrow what happened!

My doctor had me go to her after at least 24 hours into withdrawals. She charged $400 for the first visit and $200 for each addictional visit.
On the first day, they asked a bunch of questions, watched my blood pressure and pulse rate to see if I was in withdrawal enough to be able to start the sub. I was given a drug test (had to pee in a cup) and sign a contract stating that I wouldn't use other drugs or alcohol while on the program.
After they put the first dose under my tongue, my heart started racing and my blood pressure started to rise....... I wasn't in good enough withdrawal when I started, so it was throwing me into it rapidly. This lasted about 10 minutes, then I called down.
For the next 3 hours, the watched me, checked my pulse, looked at my blood pressure, etc...... they also adjusted the sub to make sure I had the correct dose to take a way my symptoms.
Good luck.
Danielle
